It also kills all the natural yeast in the cider that would naturally turn your cider hard. And hard cider is best cider.

Garbageplate putting Upstate in the news.

And Shutt's Cider Mill uses cold UV process to pasteurize their cider. It's like the nectar of the gods.

Out of every kind of donut when we stopped by at noon one Sat. The cider more than made up for it.
But the real gem in that joint is the huge number of apple varietals you can buy, including all of the old and now out of favor ones. All grown on property.

They were out of donuts because the fried cakes are to die for. Most sell while still warm from the fryer. We always cracked open the cider and had a donut before we left the parking lot for home. Washington is a cider wasteland and it's killin me.

Until you guys mentioned the cider I had forgotten about it ... and now I can smell and taste it. You know, in my mind.

you can think odwalla for that. Fucking scumbags were running cows underneath their apple trees. Didn’t even bother to clean the cow shit off the fucking rotten dropped apples they picked up off the ground. Fucked up the whole cider industry with that bullshit move.

Ha! I love it. I want to see the pallet staircase they built to get the last couple on top. They were probably tempted to go for a baker’s dozen at that point but I guess discretion is the better part of valor.

I have to go up to Brockport to pick up the kid Mon/Tues, have they reopened some of the rest areas on the Thruway? I saw that Modena was open the other day but the one north of it is still closed. With the weather looking like it's gonna suck I don't want to have to go searching for bathrooms.

@huckbucket come over to B'port Monday night and meet us for a beer at the bbq place.

@Bmills what's your Upstate travel plans looking like?

That sounds awesome. Nothing better this time of year than an orchard with great produce and cider. And donuts.

That dude stepped into a decades old Rochester turf war. Every other joint innthe Rochester area serves " plates", only Tahou's can call them "garbage plates".

Not sure where we stand on this, but my school just beat Boise State and Clemson in the Charleston Classic, and the announcers keep referring to us being from Upstate NY. I didn't read the whole thread, or any of it. Is the Southern Tier considered Upstate?

of course, there’s lots of ways to skin a cat. You can slice and dice the state into a myriad of permutations

Snowfall totals is the only real measure of upstate that matters....

This clears it up, never mind. I went to college in the bottom left hand corner with apocalyptic snow totals.

We have some damn good cider and donuts down here in Mass too. Vibes to Washington folks, didn't know you were hurting for tasty fall apple goods.

Even in bumfuck MT the upstates came up. I was eating dinner last night and a lady next to us at the bar tells the bartender that tequila is a no go for her. Says when you start drinking tequila in Idaho and wake up the next day in upstate NY its prob a sign to stop. Unfortunately I didnt ask where in upstate to determine a proper geographic ruling.

Fun fact: that’s how most of the great reverse-migration populated the Upstates.

    Probably.
