I drove the “southern route” to Plattekill yesterday, route 17 (future I86) through Roscoe and Margaretville. The highlight of the drive is the part that snakes around Pepacton reservoir. Beautiful body of water but a reminder that upstate is ruled by the downstaters. All these Catskills reservoirs have drowned communities on their bottoms, imminent-domained to provide the city with water.

That actually had a fair bit to do with how Upstate has developed and become the place it is now.

My most vivid memories of the Roscoe Diner were from driving home from MSG shows, often at 2 or 3 in the morning, often chemically altered. The pies and cakes in the glass cylinders by the register looked like they were three feet tall.
I ordered a slice of tall cake once that had mold in the center icing.
    Yummy while tripping!
But they had free bumper stickers…

This deserved more applause than it got. Well done, and added to the lexicon.

I just like that it is open when I get there- like a diner is supposed to be. All the shit on route 28 opens late and closes early. And the stickers. I asked them to make some helmet sized stickers last time I was there. I guess I should stop in again to see if they listened.

Agreed. That reminds me I need to replace the tarp on my camper. It’s in tatters.

I've spent most of my life skiing and fly fishing. The rest I have just wasted.

A solid 15 for me. But there should be 15 points, not 16.

SPAC is Central, NY. Not Upstate

Why would I cheer for the Bills?
I just haven't had a chance to stop at the Anchor Bar yet but it's on the hit list for this year.
Why Beak and Skiff? There are lots of great orchards (that are often less expensive).
Are there low sodium, low cholesterol garbage plates?
I've had plenty of Stewart's ice cream, does that count?

@spencer - SPAC is CNY? WTF dude, not even sort of.

    SPAC not upstate?

I've lived in da upstates for 4 years and proudly only show a 2. Being lactose intolerant helps.

I don't live in NY and I scored a 7. However, 3 of my points were done outside of NY.

10… I don’t know. Leaf peeping and finger lakes wineries strike me as confirming your status as a tourist visiting upstate more than it identifies you as a native. It also seems a little CNY WNY oriented. I have hiked, paddled and climbed during the autumn and admired the colors of fall but never got in my car specifically to look at yellow and red leaves. I’ve also never been to the state fair but I rode an elephant at the Orange County fair and worked at the Altamont Fair. No points for that? And black & white cookies are just as big downstate as they are upstate.

Every single one except cheering for the Bills, I don’t GAF.

SPAC is definitely Upstate, and definitely NOT CNY.

This weekend, Plattekill is giving season passers from other hills 50% off. One per and you need your pass + an ID that matches.
