You mean the Corning Ware casseroles?

Oaks Corners is Upstate. A knew of a guy who had a thriving business there in the 70's. Made fake noses for opera companies from all over the world.

This thread is an awesome mix of homerism, nostalgia and stoke. Nice work boys!
No we're not. It's 287 not 84 and that upstate PA idea posited recently is no good. You just won't convince me that places like Alfred and Olean aren't The Upstate we're looking for.

I’m actually having second thoughts on this. Peekskill has a sort of upstate flavor but Tarrytown, Ossining and Croton do not. We’re getting close though. Is West Point upstate?

Ok maybe. How about Rt 6 here on the east side of The River? That splits Peekskill, puts Somers downstate and the hillbilly side of Yorktown in the Upstate. The west side of the river has to drop down to 287 because Nyack is firmly Upstate and there are a few other burgs over there that are definitely Upstate like Florida and Warwick.

^^ An armory, golf course and a ski area. It is kind of it's own zone.

If it has woods, it's upstate. If you can hunt deer, it's upstate.

So, I have a question. Is Greek Peak in some sort of mountain range? Seemed to be the flattest place I've ever driven to a pretty damn good ski area. What happened there?

That's going to be a 'No' from me.

Ya well, I put 84 as the Northern border of upstate. So take that.

I drive through there pretty frequently. There’s been a really cool looking old Ford Ranchero parked by the Key Bank that catches my eye every time I go by.

It's a geological feature known as a Monadnock, Mr. Profane.

As opposed to a Drumlin, which formed a lot of hills in CNY.
Well, the glaciers formed them, IIRC.

And now I know what a Drumlin and a Monadnock is. Seems like glaciers get blamed for everything.

supposedly the glaciers invaded down from canada and stopped somewhere around the "southern tier" as they receded back north and melted out and on there trip down they dug all the valleys and the finger lakes which created the places like greek peak

the barge canal and thruway area is the flater than kansas and everything bumps up big time like around chittenango south to greek peak and beyond

that whole area has some of the most amazing road riding around, no traffic unless your on one of the state highways and endless back roads that just repeat 250-500 ft climbs over and over

Yeah, looked sweet. I haven't seen a better place that combines decent skiing and road riding anywhere. All the roads were freshly paved. Ithaca was surprisingly gritty, though.

^Don't miss Bristol and Labrador while you're in CNY.

Some of those dumpy zones north of Nyack and south of Rt 6 are totally upstate.
