Man, I just drove from Red Hook (Bard) to Binghamton via 199-17 (through Monroe, Liberty, etc), wow, it’s even more upstate than ever. Now with more Hasidic communities! So weird. The poverty and lack of opportunity in that area is so depressing. I can’t even imagine the resentment (although a lot of Hasidic Jews and other more extreme factions) are fairly poor/not rich? themselves, actually.

Never skied at Tog. I tried Song and Lab my first year living in CNY and found the layout at Song too weird. Plus, my kids' school ski clubs went to Lab. We started buying passes there for the 2003/2004 season and fell in love with the place. I had so many great pow days there and the tree skiing is underrated. The family that owned it prior to Mr. Shithead was always present and very friendly.

I would ski every Sat/Sun there and most Wednesday nights when my kids were there for ski club. So sad that the new owner is such a dick. I hope he gets hammered by the State but I worry about the future of Lab and Song if he does.

What a crazy story. I never got to Tog and only skied Song and Lab once each but I agree Lab is a nice spot. Those low angle trees were fun.

Tog was losing money every year, so it was only a matter of time before it closed one way or another. The guys from Greek knew Harris was going to shut Tog down when they sold.

I used to ski Tog and Mystic a few times each year from about 78-82(3?) and like them more than Lab, never skied Song. I always had fun at Tog and Mystic had great trees.

I don’t know why, but it just occurred to me that the 10,000 Maniacs song Like the Weather is about the Upstates.

I had heard odd things were going on at Tog but not the full story. Skied there a few times in the late eighties while at SU, always had a blast.

Grew up skiing TOG. in jeans or flight pants with no hat for the most part. Lots of firsts for me there on wednesday night ski club and the bus rides. First time boozing it. First make-outs. We hated the caz kids cause they were such better skiers and knew it.

You know they spent a long time retracing their movements looking for that. Genius packaging though.

perhaps you’re right; but at least they enjoyed 33% of it before the loss…better that some old deadhead finds it rather than my teenager or some other random kid [emoji51]

The upstates is where old forums go to die

    Fact
    Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
    Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

I've been there! Went by yesterday on 87 and thought about getting off but I already had 10 hours in the car for the day and just wanted to go home.

I picked up a cheap fly rod and some flies recently. Gonna bring it up to the Catskills some time this summer but I am just trying to figure out how to cast right now. Considering how bad I am at bait fishing, this may be a short experiment

Bruce Transue forced out of ORDA for union busting activities. Sounds pretty fuckin blatant. Not sure how he thought he was gonna get away with that. The taylor law is pretty fuckin clear and these are some pretty obvious violations. I always find it hard to understand what the fuck management thinks they are going to accomplish by screwing with their workers lives like this. Pissing off the people that operate your million dollar snow snowmaking plant does not seem like a cost effective planned to me. It is too bad, because he really turned the snowmaking around at belleayre and recently has also been making a significant impact on both gore and whiteface. Pretty sure he has not been employed by the state for the 10 years necessary to be vested in the retirement plan.
