We've been trying to dice this a bit too fine. It's possible there's a transition zone where upstate and downstate coexist.

A sort of cultural eutectic point if you will...

Thatís a seductive theory. So anything south of 84 and either west of the Hudson or north of Rt 6 is no manísí land?

Peekskill peeps use it, along with everyone else in the woods.

Forgot to mention that everyone at the dinner table overwhelmingly agreed that there is no upstate east of the river.
I still call it The Jake.

What? Like all the way to Lake Champlain? Or the Adirondacks? The Hudson goes pretty far north. This is actually evidence that they were all downstaters. Like my college buddy from Yorktown/ the Bronx who asked me if Albany was in Jersey.

I grew up there and walked there almost every day. There is no massive lot. It's a riverfront park. Must be thinking of COH.

And thanks for the info on IP3. Didn't know that. My Dad worked there for over 30 years. I used to get up in the middle of the night as a kid and help my Mom bring trays of lasagna or ziti down to the night shift.

This gets me thinking in a new direction. Trains going north from Croton have to switch to diesel from the third rail to the south. Could be a variable there of demarcation.

And knowing it well, Verplank seems upstate AF.

    The quest continues.

They said no Upstates East of the River till about Albany.

The third rail to diesel conversion point is a nice indicator

Is there a band that personifies coming of age in Upstate more than Rush?

Well then you don't know Mahopac. I've lived in this shithole for 25 years now, it votes red, it goes to church every Sunday, it's lily white and most people don't even bother with tarps they just leave shit out to rot. Oh and don't forget the racism, prejudice and ugly undertones approved by the old boy network. Yeah, it's upstate but filled with people that make city money.

Alrighty then. A new data point. Look at us. This chautauqua is getting it done.

What about north of Bear Mountain, Rt. 202/35 to the East and Rte6 to the West. Does Woodbury Commons go Upstate?
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.

I think they nailed it. A hundred pages ago I mentioned that east of the Hudson is a odd or strange place to me. They are right. Everything east of the river has a vibe that is much different than the rest of Upstate. I think the line of demarcation is the border of Rennselaer and Columbia or Columbia and Dutchess...probably Columbia and Dutchess.

Bottom right, East of the river is not flat! Quite the opposite really but it's starting to look like we're finally sorting out the misunderstood EoR (east of river) zone thing going on here. I've been trying to say for a while now...
