I’m getting a sense that there’s a possible Underground Railroad for UC here. Just thinking out loud…

^ Those blue with yellow lettering historical marker signs are great starting points if you ever want to deep dive into local history. Pennsylvania also has them and I read somewhere both states went the extra mile in correctly locating them.

There's no telling what the same signs might say 100 years from now, "VFW Post - Here stood the {fill in the name of an upstate town or village} VFW post, where local old-timers would congregate to drink cheap beer and get away from their wives."

Alternate text:" ... old-timers would congregate to drink cheap beer when their wives told them to GTFO because wife needed some peace and quiet!"
“The best argument in favour of a 90% tax rate on the rich is a five-minute chat with the average rich person.”

    - Winston Churchill, paraphrased.

I'm here for the history lessons. Wondering if the Invasion of Brant and Johnson had anything to do with tarps, cars on blocks or UC.

Those low clouds were over here in 802 as well. Still are. Gorgeous weather all week and then when I have something I actually need to get done outside it rains all weekend.

    Westfax + Shawing in Denver.
In the 716, Bar Bill is my top recommendation for wings and weck.

The Westchester line is at the end of my street. I prefer to think of this as the Southern Taconic Highlands but most would call it the Hudson Valley. Sounds like our paths are about to cross. Hopefully we can put together an Upstate thread get together.

This distillery and brewery are across the street from each other in a really cool little town you'd never go to unless you're on a mission. It's halfway between Bethel and Roscoe on beautiful back roads. Make the effort and visit these places! My wife had an event at Bethel Woods for 3 nights, she started this biz making all hand loomed stuff using premium natural fibers a few years ago. We travel all over on weekends to these craft fairs, this was called Peace Love and Pumpkins and was in the market shed at the top of the original Woodstock field. She makes everything by hand and I make the displays and play pack mule and chauffeur.Click image for larger version.

Because this is still sort of a ski forum I'll bring it around to that. We stayed at Resorts World Casino and went out the back way Sunday morning to drive more back roads to go to Calicoon and came across thisClick image for larger version.

There's a new water park resort on the grounds of the old Concord Hotel and they're working on resurrecting the old ski area. They have plans in place to install a new lift in 2022 to open for the 22/23 season. They're clearing and mowing and cutting new runs but won't allow uphill travel this winter We also stumbled across another ski area I didn't know was there, the (huge, who knew?) Villa Roma resort also has a mini area right outside the hotel back door. Sorry, no pics it caught me totally off guard with traffic behind me.

I just read an article in the paper that identified Sarah Lawrence College as being upstate. It is located in Bronxville. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Bronxville…
