Grrrr just posted in the Sun Valley snob thread that it's the busiest summer ever. Real estate selling above asking sight unseen same day, short term rentals all booked.

Just got back from sun valley late last night. Place was busy but not overly so. Had no problem camping at my usual spot but there were loads of people heading in for the holiday weekend as I was heading out. Trail usage was about what I’ve encountered in the past.

Fun day on the MDH! Had to wade through some knee deep ooze. Riding here again tomorrow then headed to Bozeman.
Good place to park and camp around Bozeman or in the way?
Good rides? I have Bangtail Divide and Copper City on my list.
If you see a red Subaru outback with "Advil is my yoga" sticker on it... Moon me!

Copper City will be scorching this time of year. Go ride Mile Creek to Targhee pass.

This. Also camping and riding around Livingston in paradise valley is also an option. Grab a pizza from Gil's(the Murray) on your way through.
If you head over to mile, which is about 2hrs from Bozeman, I like camping around west fork. Tons of spots and good fishing. Was just there last week.
Bangtails a good ride. If you have shuttle abilities I'd hit shafthouse(can be ridden as out and back) Great rides and great views of bridgers and crazies.
Have fun!
Edit to add: if you do end up riding certain trails close to Bozeman check and see if they're on trail share(certain days bikes aren't allowed.)Last edited by lifelinksplit; 07-15-2020 at 02:55 PM.

If it's hot and/or you like lakes, this Bozeman ride (in Hyalite) is a classic...
https://www.trailforks.com/trails/emerald-lake/
Free / pay camping up there too...
I haven't made it up to Hyalite this summer, but understand there's lots of road work going on...
ETA: If I were only spending 2 days riding in and around BZN I'm not sure I'd suggest / ride Bangtail or Copper City. They're both fine destinations but not EPIC rides by any means -- IMBA designation notwithstanding...
Rather I'd head straight to Sheep/Mile Creek or if you're sold on BZN I'd ride Blackmore to Cottonwood (Hyalite) but YMMV...

Thanks! I'm rolling west on 94 now. I think we will camp at battleground and ride Bangtail tomorrow. My ride partner is solid enthusiastic intermediate so smooth is good. I will just ride the road back to get the car. Still figuring out another ride.
I am seeing fairy lake across the road there near bridger. How's that?
Looking at that pizza place in livingston now.
Saw bison and pronghorn on a run on the petrified forest trail today in teddy roosevelt national Park.
Fyi pay showers at buffalo gap campground near Medora are broken and FREE! So if you are rolling down down 94 and want to bathe, it's right off the highway.
Saw a bumper sticker that just read "I eat ass". No other stickers. Nondescript sedan.
Also saw a full size rv on fire on the side of the highway. Awesome amount of smoke.

Ride Shafthouse.
https://www.trailforks.com/trails/shafthouse/
I am actually riding it tomorrow at 8am with a friend if you guys decide not to ride Bangtail. We start at Seitz Rd go up SH from parking lot, do the Carrol Creek rd over to Fairly Lake Road, then up road to start of SH close to the lake. Grind the rest of the way to the top and then enjoy the DH. It's one of the best downhills around IMO and generally empty so you can really let it rip.

Bangtail Divide was a great ride. Kudos to the woman who was riding it roundtrip.
Hiked Sacagawea and Ross Peak and tons of people skiing the great one today.
Rode down Shafthouse for the win.
Almost got to ride with Whiteroom Guardian but stars did not align but gave me the Shafthouse tip that was confirmed by some guys pushing bikes up Sac Pass.
Bozeman and surrounding are amazeballs and I need to come back.
Missoula bound to visit a friend that I assume knows the goods.
Then Ketchum. I will be solo for that part if anyone wants to show me around.

i live in boise, and i feel like anyone who had the means or simply the desire to buy an RV has decided to buy one during pandemic. I just spent a week in stanley, and the police basically gave up kicking people out of camping where they shouldnt be camping because it was soo crowded. Its still great riding and you generally wont see anyone, and the line for the bakery is still 30+ minutes (at 7am, not sure about 9am). I had to set up camp several hours before i would normally in order to make sure i had a reasonable place to sleep.
I went up to watch the comet and you could tell a sizeable increase in light pollution which was sad but still a beauty. It'd be considered empty to any east coaster though.
have fun.

The riding and scenery up by Stanley is unreal. As for camping, weekends are busy at spots near the main road. I found a spot near sunny gulch and just parked it in the RV refuge camp. But the forest roads out to trailheads have so many nice spots that are not all taken.
A guy at the casino trailhead suggested I look for a spot on Baker creek near the Osgood trailhead. Very few spots even taken. So much better than where I was. Quiet. Deer in my camp in the am.
Did Curley yesterday evening.
Rode Osgood to Alden in the rain today and I got very very cold but saw a herd of elk and a few hummingbirds.
Hot springs warmed me up!
Hmmm... What to ride tomorrow...
Random photo. I think on little casino.

Hard to leave the Ketchum Stanley area. Perfect climate and tons of trails. Thanks to those who suggested it. Averaged about 4k and 25 miles a day. Beers are big at grumpys.
Lots of ebikes here. Like a third to a half of the few riders I saw out on the trails. One guy said it was his first mountain bike! He was in his 30s and not super fat. I thought that was wierd. Kind of skews your perspective.
Southbound to probably camp in the heat outside arches np then on to Durango for Colorado trail. If anyone knows a good spot on blm land outside arches I'm all ears.
The campsite here were mostly empty during the week but all filled up Thursday night. It seems to be mostly a weekend crowd.
After Durango I'm probably going to crested butte area. If you have any suggestions for good campsites and rides that should not be missed...

Rode the colo trail from Molas pass to Durango. Fucking awesome. Considering the whole thing next summer if I can figure out bikepacking.
Ouray was a UTV covid shitshow.
Riding crested Butte this week. Dusty! Rides here have been great so far.
A few more days then hopefully monarch crest (shuttle required?) and canyon Creek on the way east.
