I once bought about six pair of new Steels, and right out of the box all had a crack across the bottom of each plastic AFD. It's like the plastic AFD wasn't a perfect match for the metal wing. Anyone who has 916s or Steels should put beads of G/Flex epoxy around the edge of the AFDs and use gravity to try to flow the epoxy where it needs to go, before the AFD's fall out.

Do you mean cracked plastic? Or an empty gap between plastic and metal?

The AFD is partially anchored by a riveted tab on the bottom. But the tab doesn't follow the metal wing perfectly, so the stressed plastic tab cracks between the AFD and the rivet, even when new. I can take a photo tonight.

Thats good to know. Going to do just that with the one intact remaining AFD and fix the other ones myself with JB Weld.

The crack that causes them to fall off. If you still have attached AFD's, working a bit of epoxy into the seam between the black plastic and the painted metal all the way around the AFD should keep it in place. If the AFD is barely hanging on or fell off but you have the loose piece, you could apply epoxy to the back side wherever it touches the metal.

Thanks for the photo. Now I get it. ...but still seems weird that they break while new in box.

100% were. The plastic piece just isn't shaped quite right and it's stressed when installed, until the crack relieves the stress.
