what is a hotronic boot heater, is that an insole or a sock or something else ?
Thread title is " heated socks " but if you did read it you couldn't tell if the poster was talking about socks or insoles
heated socks do take up some extra volume IME even the thinner model of sock so depending on your fit that could be good or bad, I changed foot bedsLee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know

on a thread titled " Heated Socks " it starts out about socks until the subject goes to insoles then socks then insoles or insoles and/or no designation either way
and then some one posts about apt heaters in their flat in britain near as I can tell .
the thing about a technical document posted in a place called " Tech Talk " IS
it should be technicalLee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know

Heated socks
I have 2 seasons on lenz 5.0. My feet run cold so I was constantly dealing with superficial frostbite or uncomfortably cold feet prior to the getting them. With the heated socks my feet are great. On long days on cold days the batteries my die (on 2/3 for 50+% for the day) but I am able to make it back to the car before my feet are too cold. From my perspective they worth their cost.
I will have to replace the socks next season as holes are starting in high wear areas. For reference I have about 60 days/season of touring between 2 pair of these socks. Honestly, nothing to complain about. I repaired them to extend their life. Seems the 6.0 improvement will be nice.
As far as fit my feet are on the very low volume end so these are the essentially the same thickness as what was previously wearing anyway in my touring boot or my resort plugs. I have had hotronic insoles in my plugs for 5+ years and they were pretty good. Now I wear the lenz socks with the hotronics for all day lift assisted skiing or just the sock for smashing out groomers before lunch.

Anyone tried the Hotronics Surround socks? Seem to be direct competition to the Lenz toecap socks.
@XXX-er, I think that's what you're using: the Hotronic Surround Thins. After doing some digging seems heating element runs under the balls of foot and then around the toes. This reads same for the Lenz 6.0. Both have same 1200 or 1800 battery options and work out to similar (very high) final price tag (around $500CAD with the big batteries).
Sure would like to know if any significant difference between the Hotronic Surround Thins and the Lenz 6.0's.Last edited by FlimFlamvanHam; 05-31-2022 at 01:00 PM.

Hotronic XLP 2PBT Heat sock set Surround comfort
" comfort thickness compression soft, 4400mAh battery pack, bluetooth connectivity "
element comes down the back/ under the sole of the foot/ raps around the big toe / ends at the little toe
yeah the surround comfort. I have a wide forefoot so I swapped foot beds, I expected a real hot foot experiance but what happens is that instead my feet don't feel cold, the batteries seem to last for a day of skiing, the only downside is having to mess with boot volume by changing the insole

The wife has hinted of wanting heated socks for Christmas. Anything new or recommendations in this category? Is the Lenz product the way to go? No doubt a little spendy, but it seems the general consensus is it's worth every penny.

Heated socks
^^ Have not used Lenz for comparison but we’ve been happy with our Sidas Ski Heat LV socks. (Also come in MV variant if thats your jam) . Feels like a true lv sock, bluetooth control. Durability unknown as going on second season but they’ve survived my racer kids who seem intent on destroying everything and we’ve used thermic (same company) for years with very few issues.
Not cheap but less $$ than Lenz @ msrp and less still if you get a 20% off coupon from the webstore that is easily found thru the googles.

Word of caution on the Hotronic socks. Had them for 22 months and a battery just shit the bed. 2 year warranty, allegedly, but so far I’ve made minimal progress in getting it processed. Most of the problem is on my end, used an REI gift card to buy. Apparently REI isn’t officially affiliated with Hotronic and can’t process the claim. Finally tracked down a phone number for Hotronic and they said just take it to any dealer and they will process it. Now I’ve got to feel like an ass to go jnto a shop and ask them to process a warranty claim for a product I bought at a competitor.
When they work, they are sweet. If I fail on this warranty, I’ll look to replace with Lenz. Not going back to cold toes.

I’ve used a few versions / brands of the socks and now just go with the far more reliable thermic footbeds instead.
I understand how expensive boot molds are in various sizes and how complex that process is, but damn if they had truly integrated ski boots with warming technology integrated into the shell I’d pay a few grand for them without hesitation. Guessing I’m not alone.

Is there an LV fit heated sock that surrounds the big toe with the heating element? I have a friend with Lenz’s, which they love, but the element does not extend to the big toe. I’m not sure of the exact model they have -I think it’s the 5.0 but not certain at all.
