Statue of Robert E. Lee and other confederate symbols
I am all for removing these status from public places, but let’s not forget that erasing reminders of history and our mistakes will many times lead to repeating them.

Statue of Robert E. Lee and other confederate symbols
was not trolling at all. just shared because i was shocked to learn about the history. We had visited with the kids and we read a history book about South Dakota on the drive there. Was so disgusted by it really. It just seems like a big fuck you to the Native Americans. So we also visited the Crazy Horse memorial/sculpture that is being privately funded and built a few miles from there.
It will be larger than Mount Rushmore. Pretty interesting.

I wasn’t saying you were a troll. Mt Rushmore is a giant troll to the indigenous people.
Bad joke on my part.
I’ll go back to my corner.

Trump is having his face carved 3000 feet tall into the side of El Capitan. Just as soon as his wall is finished.

There is a private market. Price looks good $1.42/lb
https://rockawayrecycling.com/metal/bronze-2/
Outside scrap, I doubt there's much market. Since I became aware of the statue controversy some time ago, I've paid some attention to statue presence. I've noticed very few statues. Especially rare are statues of specific individuals. No city I've lived in have any that come to mind. My alma mater had none. Googling shows a local uni, Stanford has 2 (Franklin, and a greek?), UC Berkeley has none. I've seen a few statues in Europe. Maybe statues are un-American?
As to the controversy, I once felt some need to respect history. After observing a general lack of statues outside the civil war racists, it's difficult to see them as anything but racist shitpiles erected by racist shitheads, and the sooner removed, the better. A picture in a museum is adequate to remember the less enlightened past. Or perhaps an artist can beat one into a new form, reflecting current values.10/01/2012 Site was upgraded to 300 baud.

Lots of statues of individuals in DC. Can't think of any Confederates though.

edit: Brig. Gen Albert Pike CSA has a statue in DC but he's not in uniform: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Albert_Pike

For some reason NYC seems to be light on sports statues--there's one of Larsen in the Yankees museum, couldn't find any others. Oh, and there's the monument to bullfighting in front of the NYSE.

Just came across this article: https://medium.com/@orangeintogrape/...w-2884dd8d33f6
The monument was erected in the first period of when these all went up, in the early 1900s. But sure, let's leave all these up because they commemorate "history"."fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ

Topple the statues but teach why they were put up in the first place and why they were removed. Seems fairly straightforward.

Whoa dude.
I mean we have all forgotten Hitler and Saddam right?
Tear that shit down and I'm perfectly happy to engage in a discussion about the Monticello.
In the mean time, it seems that despite the fact that these statues are up many people have forgotten the actual history of who these people were. It's only now that we are discussing tearing them down that some are having to wrestle with what they mean and why they were erected to begin with.

I think you just said the same thing I did. Pull them down but don't forget the reasons they were put up. Not the reasons those people who built them or those who want to keep them would tell you, the real reasons.
