I enjoy not having to commute an hour each way, saves a lot of wear and tear on my car and my psyche.

I enjoy spending more time with my kiddo.

I think that might be the complete list.

I still have to go into work (can't really do lab work remotely), but they've pushed any position that can be remote out of the building. Combined with the decrease in traffic overall, my commute is much nicer. I really dig not sitting in traffic after working a 10 hour day.

Ya'll are fortunate. My folks are still relatively young, but COVID has now lead to the cancellation of two get-togethers we had planned. At this point, we're pretty much just accepting the fact that we won't see each other for another 12-24 months.

I've really enjoyed my time backpacking this year.
I'm searching out obscure destinations to keep the interactions down and had great results so far.
As the remaining snow melts out, I'm looking forward to getting to some new areas!

Yah that hit home. I used to take them to see the wildflowers growing nearby. I'm not sure that's possible anymore

As a textbook introvert and somewhat OCD, I couldn't be happier that some things in my life are finally validated, such as voluntary isolation paired with above and beyond cleanliness. I've been to the grocery store 3 times since March, that's it. Saving money not going out to eat is awesome, all of a sudden I have more money for bike parts. I've finally knocked out some of those books I've been meaning to read. And, I'm also working on my second book to be published by The Mountaineers. I quit drinking, too, at least for the time being, to get in better bike shape and keep my wits about me during these precarious times. My favorite parts though have been watching the snow melt and grass grow while the robins in the yard tend to their nests. I really do appreciate this downtime despite the circumstances.

    Bring the flowers to them.

This made me chuckle. Whenever I say something in support of strong social distancing and isolation my daughter is quick to point out that just because I am a hermit, it doesn't mean everyone wants to be.

    This!

Spent tons more time with my kids, my 18yo is soon to leave the nest so this has been some good time.
Wife has had lots of spare time so we are cranking through foster dogs and she has been doing some painting and whatnot.
The general slower pace of life has been nice and made me reexamine living in the SL,UT valley.

I would like to say the fishing holes and the MTB trails were mohr empty but that would be a goddamned lie with the dentist class working from home it is busier than I have ever seen it.

Enjoyable things during COVID social isolation

Now that the snow is gone from low and mid elevations, I’m finding a lot of trails or areas I used to walk that are void of people. Found myself getting lazy over the years and just hitting the town exercise haunts before or after work. I got sick of trying to figure out how to stay 6+ feet from others. Now i go where nobody else walks. Much better !
    Fishin has been good!
Lake boat season starting this wknd!

And most importantly, the Wife and I are enjoying evenings with our kids. No double Lax practices back to back into homework, throw together dinner and bed now! I actually get to hang out with them instead of playing chauffeur bitch. (Don’t get me wrong - I love being part of kid sports and activities. Just a nice break)

Usually from March to May or June I’m skiing a lot with my son. We live 4 hours from the hill, until we start hitting Mammoth which is 6.5 hours. So, way less wear and tear on the car, fewer hours on the road.

End result is my garden is in the best June shape ever. Not only do I have the winter garden garden and weeds pulled, I already have cucumbers on the plant. It’s going to be a good summer of harvests.

Bum shoulder has kept me from surfing (it dislocated in November and did not want to test it during Shelter in Place) so I took my socialist check and bought a new hardtail XC bike. I had forgotten that MTB can be super fun. Rediscovering the UCSC trail network above Wilder. Long adult rides, but also started to shuttle my wife and kid up there as well. Seeing my 9 yr old kill the single track has been a blast and a new thing we can do together.

Friends dropped off some sour dough starter a while back. I was reluctant, but now have been baking a loaf every three days of awesome bread. Been making my yogurt and granola as well. Time at home is allowing all of this.

I like spending time at my home and in my town. We found a 13 mile bluff ride we all like. Bring books, lunch and a hammock. Also discovered a coastal terrace hike that climbs 800’ and loops in just over 3 miles for awesome ocean views. I like spotting the whales.

Had to re design my job. I’m a lunch lady, but changed to a program where food insecure students could order food in advance and pick up weekly coordinating with local food bank to provide groceries and produce for the families. That has been fun in a way.

Other than the mess my wife and son make of spending days in the house, this like is kind of ideal (minus the skiing thing)

For a traveling sales guy this has been great. Typically 50% min on road/air, all home now so that is nice. All demos/process reviews done via web but team has been great and we all have worked well together through this. Actually the team has never been more tight and coming up with great ways to service our customers.

Bought a Vanagon last fall as a whim for a good price, have had time to get it running and clean it up as a joint project with my daughter, teaching her how to turn a wrench. She learned how to drive a manual transmission, albeit a bit hesitant.

Trying to make the best of it. Sure I miss going out for dinner and drinks, meeting with friends with no hesitations but this is new reality. Time to lead for my family, we talk how to cope, how to deal with all the info coming in and emotions at play and be that leader to others around you. I am so proud of how my kids have reacted to all of this.

I got a puppy mid February and it's the two of us hunkered down, for the most part. We have spent so much time together now it has really worked out well. He's trained me to feed him when he barks for food and to clean up his shit.
Actually he's the greatest because of our close connection. Really smart lil fukker. It's been great.

Got a Spotify account and have spent a good amount of time listening to music. Revisiting old favorites and listening to new stuff. On a Jack Dejohnette roll right now.

TV watching has gone down with the absence of live sports. Work is slacking off a little so I'm getting a decent bit of riding in.
