Natty, what’s your role at the FD these days? Seems like a couple of years ago I went to PDX to test and visited you at the station. But it’s been 16 years. Hang tough man.

Quiet here in Ogden. As SFB mentioned we had a young police officer killed on a DV call Thursday. Seems like the protesters are cutting us a break.

Thanks all. I really am just awestruck at how this is unfolding. Eating dinner in the backyard and all I hear is choppers. Check the news on the phone and apparently there’s a big protest going on at the Governor’s Mansion, exactly 1.5 miles from our house.

Gov Kemp has used the Natl Guard to block off the road to protect the protestors. I drive down here two hours ago and it was just another sunny evening in ATL. Crazy. (FWIW, the Gov Mansion is tucked away in a particularly swank part of Buckhead called Tuxedo Forrest, not downtown like most big cities, so you can imagine how out of place all this might look)

So many emotions watching my old neighborhood in MPLS burn the last few days. Lived there for 6 years during grad school. Hexagon bar is gone -- first place I was ever a regular. Hub bike shop fucked, as is Midori's. Lots of close friends with young kids within a mile of the epicenter (mostly in Longfellow and Seward, one in Powderhorn) who are really struggling to keep wits together.

I don't advocate for such violence, but I certainly understand it.

Spent a few hours today getting trained up as a street medic by local organizers and paramedics.

fires set in 5 downtown high rises and also in the police headquarters building, along with 20 other non-structural fires, lots of looting.
As usual, it was a small group of anarchist and antifa and maga assholes who did all the damage.

Emergency Managers have had huge boners the last 5 months. They have used the emergency alert systems and all the tech they have trained for. I'm sure their budgets will continue to grow now.

They pretty much only shoot white people and latinos here in Reno cause the overwhelming racist attitude that has prevailed for the last century made life very difficult for blacks, effectively running most out long ago. But the cops still seem a touch trigger happy.

OMG they set Eileen Fischer on fire and are looting Nordstom in Seattle. It's WTO all over again. From the news coverage it's pretty obvious there are a lot of anarchists there (all dressed in black with full face covering).

So much for the social distancing in these cities.

I hadn't even noticed the spelling!

It was just specifity of outrage.

No doubt SPD will deal with this with their normal aplomb.

It doesn't seem like a particularly menacing crowd... nothing like WTO... yet.

I thought you were teasing me

Watch some of it on King5 and it looked bad. Not the numbers like WTO but some serious damage going on. Inslee has mobilized the National Guard.

All black has been adopted by far more than anarchists at this point. In an era where police use social media for tracking protestors and charges -- being anonymous is important. Hong Kong protestors adopted all black for that reason -- not any particular political affiliation.

In L.A. in 1992, I was working in central Los Angeles. After the riots, I noticed the golf shops and antique stores were untouched.

I guess looters don't play golf and don't give a shit about antiques.

Here in the PNW along the I5 corridor people dressed like that throwing Molotov cocktails aren't from the UW student union but yeah... anyone can wear black.

Stormy night for a riot in Seattle.
