Is one of these MSR pumps better than the other?
Trying to figure out which MSR stove (s) and parts to delete. I don't need a highly redundant stove quiver.
(I already figured out the red one was better but any other thoughts?)

hmm, your expertise is now in doubt.
I got an XGK 40 years ago. Mostly use a Whisperlight so I don't wake people up a mile away.
Figured someone here, in a forum wherein one obsesses about minutiae, there would be an opinion or two because, y'know everyone has one

I think the red one is newer. If one of them has a crack I would keep the other one. As far as I know, the pumps are the part of a MSR stove that is most likely to fail (the stove itself being pretty bomber), so you might wanna keep both to have a spare.

I've had that little tabs that hold the plunger in fail on the grey one shooting it out and spraying gas everywhere. Fortunately it wasn't lit yet and we were car camping. The newer red pump seems like a legitimate improvement though the plastic could still be old and brittle.
Pretty happy with my isobutane windpro...

I thought the bottles may give a sign before failing. I have an old silver fuel bottle that is just slightly bulged at the bottom, and I wouldn't use it with a pump any more. I think it's the bottle that my dad used to carry white gas for a Svea stove when I was a kid, and maybe it was not built to take the pressure of a pump. Anyway, good advice to check the bottles too. strange thread the questions in my mind :
which model of MSR stoves do each of these pump valves belong to and does any model of pump valve work with any stove head would be good questions
you might ask which is better if you you were gona buy one or the other but you obviously already own both
I can't understand why OP would choose to delete the part which is THE most likely TO fail
and then very likely have to buy a replacement pump next week
unless they live in a van by the river and can't afford the space ?

I too have fallen off the silly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
Only ever had a problem with the original pump and both of the pumps in the photo are newer. Used an XGK dozens of times but never with fuel other than white gas. Have too much stuff. Was thinking of deleting excess gear. After cursory search thought there might be some insight here regarding relative merits of various msr pumps through the ages. Perhaps a spare is wise. Gotta go climb the Silly Tree
