    Lake lift survived. Amazingly lucky.

so, would that slide been as likely to happen if that slope had been at a crowded, well skied place vs. the closed and lightly skied area that it is? How much would skier compaction help in preventing this type of slide?

The area that slid gets the most ski compaction of the entire ridge at the Y/C.

Busy days there are not like a busy day at the average ski are but it gets skied enough to be well affected.

We had a shit snow pack this winter with a persistent very weak layer at the ground with full depth avalanches into January. The area is just low enough angle that it didn't go big during that cycle. Its a big assed slide but not really that surprising given this winters avalanche activity.
