Found myself day-drinking far too much and then I realized how scary high my tolerance had become. Like REALLY high. Could drink enough to knock out an elephant. Went totally dry for a couple weeks and since then I'm keeping it reserved for one night a week. Thus, no mas afternoon bloodies for this old chap. Micheladas a darn tasty compromise, though.

As for bloody's though, there have been some EXCELLENT threads here on the subject. I believe it was TGR where I learned about the addition of bacon. Good lawd, that was awesome.

    OK...here are some rules:\

    1. Don't worry too much about the brand of Vodka. The tomato juice and other flavors will be at the forefront. Anyone who orders a call vodka for a BM is a fucking moron or a show off. Exception...pepper infused vodka can be used to sub for tobasco, in part, but not necessary

    2. Line rim of glass w/ old bay seasoning. Optional, but tasty and visually appealing.

    3. Go EASY on the worcestershire...too much will drown out the other flavors. You can always add more.

    4. Celery salt, fresh fine ground black pepper and squeeze of lemon in the mix. Again, be subtle. A sprinkling of BP and CS on the top gives a good nose.

    5. As for hot, tobasco OR horseradish...both is overkill

Minimal garnish, it's a fucking cocktail not a salad bar.

You are supposed to taste primarily tomato juice and the vodka. The best bloodys are like that.

Similar to this. Don’t fuck with a premade mix, they add sugar.

Vodka, Ice, V8, horseradish, Worcester, hot sauce, celery seed, pepper, bitters, Seasoning salt (Tony’s or old bay). Stir with a celery stick, garnish with veggies that sound good.

That little V8 can is the perfect size for a 16oz bloody....

The reason I ask is that I’m not a connoisseur, and I know that people personalize this drink quite a bit.
I’m interested in the essential recipe with its real ingredients.
I’d like to taste what it’s supposed to taste like. Not the dust mix from a shit bar or even the overly smug artisanal stylings of an aesthete or the buffet in a pint glass.
Just the classic whole flavor of the earnest unvarnished recipe

And, if that doesn’t really exist, then that’s fine too...that’s worth knowing too

I figured this crowd might know...

    That’s awesome.

The rare times I drink a bloody, it’s so simple.

But out on the town, it’s all fluff n nutter. How much crazy garnish, or infused vodka, or pickled celery or whatever.
    I don’t really enjoy a curated bloody.

Not that I enjoy morning bloodies either.
But a few times a year, if it’s a simple recipe, I’ll have one with you just to be sociable.

The fans of this category that I know enjoy the variance to some degree. They can be delicious in multiple ways. Worcestershire sauce and lime juice are staples

Never had one with it but old bay is intriguing

I was shocked the first time I had Spicy V8 and it was actually decently spicy, that’s a good call too.
