Monster for that part of the country. The ones I’ve seen in the southern apps have always looked like large dogs.

true. southern apps black bears typically aren't monsters. coastal nc black bears however are the largest in the world. from what i have read, the previous world record holder was an 880lber from craven county, nc.

Damn, what are they eating, kite-surfers?

Covid brought out all the urban wildlife around our hood. Now they are just used to the reduced traffic and noise and just go about their business without a care. I had to stop the car the other day and wait to let the scrawny neighborhood fox finish scratching behind his ear in the middle of the street.

There are three major reasons our bears get to such large proportions. First of all, consider that the diet of bears in most areas consists of mostly berries, nuts, grasses, insect larvae, and carrion, (black bears are perhaps the least carnivorous of the carnivores). By contrast, coastal North Carolina bears supplement their normal bear diet by gorging themselves on high protein agricultural crops growing in the fertile soils of the coastal plain. Their favorite of these foods include wheat, corn, and peanuts.

I live in a condo complex. Generally chill neighbors. My immediate neighbor is a french guy who gets super stoked everytime he sees im going skiing. Upstairs neighbor is a large lady who flooded our condo a year back and cheaped out on her floor replacement abover our bedroom so it creaks and is loud AF. My pregnant wife may murder her.

We just bought a big pink house in the nice part of town. have a small detention pond/swale on one side and a younger liberal couple on the other. about 1.5 blocks from a state park with trails for MTB and hiking that lead to Lake Washington, and 1 block from a cool hipstery bistro. Neighbors all look like well to do, non-yuppy types... ya know the kind that do their own yardwork, have nice trucks instead of luxury sedans, light off fireworks on the 4th and NYE even though it might be illegal, and seem to take pride in their houses and property upkeep in a 50 yr old neighborhood. I am excited to meet them.

I can not for the life of me read the words "pink house" and not instantly have John Cougar Mellencamp ringing in my brain.

Congrats, hope it works out well for you.

Big Pink is twice the size of my condo, and has a second story. Fuck yeah!

Everyone always thinks of mellencamp, but never The Band's debut album: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_from_Big_Pink

I'm a little more partial to The Band's 'Music From Big Pink' myself.

Edit: I see this was posted immediately after you, but I'm going to let it ride because the album is awesome.

We are just getting lousy with Grizzlies around here, Grizzly 399 and her four Cubs have become quasi-urban. Which is not great for when those four get kicked out next year.

Lots of black bears in our hood now. One group of mama and 3 cubs. Mama is huDge.

Ever notice that bears don't shit in the woods?
In our nbd, there are monster piles, like bigger than bowling ball piles left on our drive and gravel road.

    It's blackberry season.

Two of our three dogs are young enough to go after them, so they haven't been around too much recently.

My squirrels were evicted from the garage, but I love them, so I made them a squirrel club.
