    Renewing/reposting an ad on Craigslist

It had been a while since I had posted an ad on Craigslist (to rent out an office space), and for the first time I had to pay $5 instead of it being free. I went to "renew" it (bump it to the top ) a week later but now the only option I see is to "repost" it, which would cost another $5. Is this just how it works now or am I missing something to do this for free still? Thanks-

Was that an automotive ad? When I sold my truck I had to bump it once at $5 cost. I don't mind that - so many dealerships re-posting their ads constantly to keep them on the first page.

Seems stuff in other categories is still free. I sold a bunch of stuff the last 6-8mos including re-posting ads a few times.

They used to fund the whole operation by charging posting fees for real estate (and maybe job postings?) in the Bay Area and NYC and leaving everything else free, but they may have expanded the areas where they charge.

I believe fees vary by location and which category you're posting in. Plenty of postings are still free.

Facebook Marketplace has hit a bunch of the buy and sell type of web sites revenue. Ebay, or any that want a percentage are seeing some real decrease in listings. $5 is not bad, as stated you could just use a different email address and relist, if the $5 is too much.

No $5 is not bad, just checking to make sure I am properly paying it. I mean $5 for the intitial ad is totally fine, I'm just a bit bummed there is no longer any option to "renew" it (bump it to the top), and now you have to pay another $5 to "repost" it instead (it simply becomes a new listing that lasts for another 30 days). On the upside, I guess there is now less need to do that since everyone isn't renewing every few days, so it stays closer to the top without having to repost.

(I don't understand how a second email address would help- I understand how that helps if your aim is to circumvent the rule against having 2 ads for the same product. But you'd still need to pay another $5 regardless.)

Facebook marketplace is where the bottom feeders are now. Horrible photos, no description, and sketchy people. What could go wrong?

The 2nd email address only helps if they allow the first listing in the category is allowed still for free, then they want $5 to bump it and keep it on the page - rules have changed some since I've listed for sale items on Craigslist though.

Was poking around on CL and saw this: https://www.craigslist.org/about/help/posting_fees

"She was tossing her bean salad with the vigor of a Drunken Pop princess so I walked out of the corner and said.... "need a hand?"" - Odin
"I'd eat a bag of Dicks and wash it down with a Coke any day." - iceman
