^^^ proper alignment of branding on rim and tire, props for that. Had to peel off my rim decals as I kept fucking it up and my OCD would flare up.

Beautiful bike. That is basically the exact build I’ve been lusting over recently. Congrats.

What have you bought/upgraded today.
Best movie I’ve ever seen, Fury Road. That and District 9 are movies I could watch everyday.
Order is in for my new gravel rig, Spesh Crux. Whoop-Whoopcrab in my shoe mouth

Our shop just got an account with one-up and got an order of pedals. I'm torn as to what color pedals to buy and how many of my bikes neeeeed new pedals.

Talk me out of (or into) these upgrades:
Whisky No 7 stem -> Enve Mountain stem
Truvativ Stylo cranks -> XX1 carbon cranks
GX Eagle 10-52 for XX1 Eagle 10-52
GX AXS Eagle rear der for XX1 AXS
what is the best prioritization of these?

Whisky No 7 stem -> Enve Mountain stem
$25- 138g vs $205 94g
Truvativ Stylo cranks -> XX1 carbon cranks
$265- 555g vs $536 490g Upgrades to hollow carbon fiber arms with one-piece spindle+insert, with additional machining inside spindle and on chainring to save more weight.
GX Eagle 10-52 for XX1 Eagle 10-52
[B]$220- 448g vs $430 360g Upgrades to a one-piece hollow machined steel main cluster with alloy 52-tooth cog pressed onto the back
GX AXS Eagle rear der for XX1 AXS
Is this a GX Mechanical vs an upgrade to AXS shifting?
what is the best prioritization of these?

The stem to stem and crank to crank is only weight difference (and money). I'd have a hard time believing anyone can feet/tell the difference in stem performance between the two.
That alloy crank is still decent, and still has the advantages of a direct mount chainring, so no performance upgrade in my opinion.
The XX1 cassette is way lighter, and I feel it shifts crisper. But its a wear item that is really expensive, so there is that to keep in mind.
The XX1 deraillure cage is stronger (less flex, less chance to bend out of spec').
My money would be:
1st priority an XX1 cassette with an XX1 chain
2nd priority XX1 derailleur
3rd priority XX1 crank (to move to future bikes, I have 7yo XX1 11s cranks that i still use)
4th priority ENVE stem for the bling, unless you really need to change geo/length/reach. Or you find a killer closeout deal on one.

I just run Kalloy Uno stems anymore, cheap, light, and strong. (~90 grams for a 35x35 with ti bolts)
Cheap enough that I have a few to sort out new bikes easily. They go for under $20.
No one has stopped me in the parking lot and denigrated me and my bike for my stem choice!Last edited by rideit; 10-19-2021 at 10:06 AM.

If all the stuff is pretty new and currently on a bike…I would be tempted to do the der first (if you are gonna do it at all). You can probably sell a GX AXS upgrade kit to someone for good money.

I ordered a Comp, figuring I’ll upgrade the wheels at some point. Having said that, I was just looking at frames and they seem to be available right now from Sierra Bicycle Supply. I’m thinking about canceling the full build and pulling the trigger on a 10r 56 frame in the blue/papaya. Anyone here dealt with these guys before?

Kinda crazy they show them all available online. Especially cause my shop said the coral Crux would likely be impossible to get for a long, long time.
Either way, congrats on the new ride. Very jealous. In the light/fast gravel world there's really no equal out there right now.

New cassette, new chain, new wheels, new tires (and new rotors)
Wheels have been built with the tires on them for a few weeks now but they finally went on and got raced yesterday. I forgot how much better tubulars are at cross than tubeless. 26/28 psi instead of 34/38 results in a lot better ride and traction. 240 hubs, light bicycle rims, challenge baby limus. Bike comes in at 18.4lb, over a pound lighter than with the stock wheels.
Big race weekend, if you're in the Missoula area we'll be at big sky brewing all day saturday. Last race is at 8pm.Last edited by jamal; 10-21-2021 at 04:18 PM.

Well, gents, this bike shreds. (‘22 Rocky Element) Took it to my favorite local loop (Phillips Ridge to Phillips Canyon). 2500 climb and descent. I didn’t quite have enough air pressure in the shock, so my impressions are skewed by being only in the trail and climb modes. Got a PR without really trying. Rear shock is a bit ‘primitive’ after years of running shocks with 4 or 5 adjustments, I will definitely be getting the FloatX.
Seatpost insertion is actually fine with the 175 Transfer (inseam of ~32”).
This is one of the chunkier descents locally, and there wasn’t a hint of chain tomfoolery, so I will try it without the guide for now.
Love the two water bottle mounts, makes choosing between a water bottle or bear spray a thing of the past. But the upper wb mounts are positioned strangely, I wish they were closer to the lower ones, so I could fit a small front frame bag as well.
The Tube in Tubes are the easiest ever, no silliness for the dropper post cable. Everything is very well thought out. The tubes are really sleek!
I still have some fine tuning to do, but I will be very happy with this bike!
It is what I always hoped my SB100 would be, but wasn’t…

Nice rideit! That’s the new new slack downcountry Element right?
News of that ones been polarizing amongst a few buddies, I think it looks like a much improved version of what Specialized tried to do w the Epic Evo. In my area that kind of bike may be the perfect bike to do it all. Enjoy!

Yup, new Element. So capable I might just bring this bike to Perú next spring instead of the Altitude, it just does everything well. Definitely not as smashy-smashy, but totally capable of riding almost anything I have the skill to ride.
It’s 6.5 pounds (or so) lighter that the big bike, which will really make the super-high altitude climbs just a *little* more enjoyable.Forum Cross Pollinator, gratuitously strident
