Speaking of gold, I ordered some cheapo brake pad pins from Amazon, and this is what showed up:

I went to pick up my aging bike from buddy's shop for pads, cables, and housing, when I dropped it off it had 2x10 SLX and when I picked it up 1x11 NX/GX. I am not upset by that.

Doesn't even show gold as a color option, but they do appear to have oilslick now!

I can't believe I went this long without upgrading to the 54t ratchet. What a huge difference punching up climbs and techy boulders. It's like riding an e-bike!

I have a bunch of those Risk Ti bolts, they are very high quality (even if the brand name is terrible). I like the gold not for the bling, but because they are the easiest to see if you drop one doing a trail side repair.
Thread drift, I am also painting the ends of my little Wolftooth tool bits with some safety orange nail-polish for this same reason this year.Forum Cross Pollinator, gratuitously strident

Just ordered a pair of instep pads and ratchet straps for my Sidi Dominators.
As pricey as they are you'd think they'd last more than 16 seasons.

New fork day must be a thing if new brake day is. After dragging my daughter through some relatively techy trails this season decided she deserved an upgrade. My first fork was also a Manitou, though hopefully this better than the elastomer one I snapped the (normal facing) crown on.

Updating my own post here, I have finally finished this COVID-boredom build. Went quite a bit overboard, and also went deep on the Alibaba/carbon knockoff game. I'm not sure I'd advise a fully grown adult to ride this stuff, but for a 40 pound kid I think it is amazing for the value/weight ratio. In fact, most of the stuff seems better built than a bunch of Easton EC90 stuff I paid ridiculous amounts of money for back in the early 00's (and that was at pro-deal prices!). Anyways, attached is the complete build list (new parts in bold), and a couple pictures:
Very happy with the way it turned out, and lost around 6 pounds from stock (!!). It is now just a hair under 15 pounds, which for a 40 pound kid makes a world of difference from stock. Also extended gearing and losing the boat-anchor suspension fork (that she could not even compress at lightest preload settings) make for an actual trail rideable 20" bike. She loves it...

I used one of those rigid carbon Exotic forks on a singlespeed for a couple of years. Mine was the version with carbon legs, but aluminum crown and steerer. It started making creaky noises after quite a bit of use, so I tossed it - totally satisfied with the life I got out of it. It definitely took a little sting out of the hits compared to the stock rigid steel fork on that bike.

I saw those at Sea Otter. They are pretty much weightless. I asked the guys if they would result in mutual destruction if used with Ti bodied pedals like Xpedos. They seemed to think it would be a bad idea. Since the pedals save like 150g and the cleats only save like 40, it seems like the choice is obvious. But...Silca.

Pulled the trigger on an MRP Hazzard with a progressive coil. Pretty stoked to give it a try. All I need now is the bike frame
