Baldy has been open for a week or two now. However, the first rule of skiing during a pandemic is don't talk about going skiing during a pandemic.

Coverage looks great to me for it being the end of April and 50 miles from downtown LA. Shrug.

Yes, it's legitimately 50 miles from Los Angeles' City Hall, and it's recorded some of the largest 24 hour snowfall totals in the United States.

It (and nearby Mt. Waterman, which was one of the few pre-WWII ski areas in North America with a chairlift) is where Warren Miller got his start as a skier and filmmaker, so it has a rightful place in the pantheon of North American skiing history.

Always wanted to ski there when I was visiting folks visiting palm desert. Did your atop the tram to Jean and backside by Tahitz(ap?) but never over to Baldy. The one year it had snow I opted for Onion Valley and university Peak. But that was because there was very limited snow at the resort. Always a early to mid April trip. This looks like a pretty good spring.

Always good to see my old college stomping grounds doing well.

Is it skiing to the bottom or do you have to download from the saddle right now?

If it's skiing to the bottom, that's phenomenal for this time of year.

A couple guys skied Bentley's and walked the last 200 yards to the bottom, but realistically Thunder is where it's at.

30-40 min drive north from Upland CA (which is basically the middle of the "inland empire" of greater LA). I skied there as a kid, and it's a fun little place. Snow has always been hit or miss, but it's a hidden gem for sure.

It's a six or seven hour drive for me and I wouldn't want to stay in any hotels, but I'd be down for sleeping on the ground.

I'm actually in this video near the beginning, in the trees. Don't bother looking though, I don't even see me, lol.

Timing is everything at Baldy, the weather is brutality variable. Make sure it's good before you go, as "there are rock skis, and then there are Baldy skis."
