YT Industries - Izzo 29er Trail Bike

personally, i’m a capra guy, but this new whippet looks to be pretty sweet for the lycra clad weight weenies riding the down valley trails.

    also, the izzo introductory video

I’m tempted by a short travel trail bike these days. I hope they offered this in frame only at some point. It would be a very fun second bike in addition to my Hightower.

I’m very interested, but also waiting for more reviews (and to see what Transistion has up their sleeve).

I’m waiting bc I want to know more about the tire rubbing noted in PB. Was it frame? Wheel flex? A one off issue? I got 30# on that guy, so: no bueno!

It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

That looks like a great bike. Props to the reviewer for not skidding all of the turns! The price point is impressive.

I think, for most people, the "trail bike" category is the right fit. On 90% of the trails I have more fun on my new Ripley than I did on the 160mm bike that preceded it, and I can still get through the chunkier sections just fine. 40 mile rides are a lot easier, though.

Put a 140mm fork on that bike, swap out to some legit tires, and you can ride it on 95% of the trails out there. I personally prefer a trail bike for my daily driver, but I also always want a "big bike" for getting rowdy. This Izzo fits the bill pretty well, and is slick looking.

Looks a little like a Trek Fuel EX but with fewer proprietary parts. Maybe more like a Smuggler.
130mm 29er is short travel now? Get off my lawn.
    No longer stuck.

why a 130/130 to go with a hightower? looks like a 100/120 or 115/120-130 would make more sense!

seems like a lot of overlap, even the LT seems to overlap a bit

I plan on getting a 140F 130R 29er for the next bike. That’s the sweet spot these days for pedaling for your fun IMHO

The new Rocky Altitude will be close to that (2021).

I like YT (I ride a Jeffsy) but the grip shift shock lock out is stupid and unnecessary on a 130mm trail bike. Adds complexity with limited value, and makes cockpit setup harder. Really a head scratcher why they bothered.

This slack short travel 29r thing has my curiosity peaked after a couple years of riding a V2 Bronson as a not very enduro type of rider.

I imagine it’d take about 10min to take it off and throw it in the trash

Nice bump. I'm looking at Spur, Ranger and Sniper T these days, hard to ignore the YT value proposition so Izzo is on the list too.

Anyone ever deal with them on a warranty issue?

Yeah I think BikeMag was pretty keen on that but most other review, especially MTBR posters, say otherwise. My question is: shouldn’t you be able to run the Float DPS in Med mode and get a little more trail compromise vs just open or locked?

I’m not opposed to lockout as a lot of my climbing is pretty buff or doubletrack.

Spur has been high on my list but the unknown availability is a hindrance and I like the idea of a bit more plush Fox34+Float vs Sid on the Spur. That then puts the Ripley in contention, but a bit at $2k more then YT. I like the idea of a Tallboy, but you pay a lot to get the weight down.
