I poured myself a little snort of bourbon last night to commemorate, and then proceeded to fall asleep on the couch before I even took a sip. RIP John.

Fantastic musician and storyteller. Enjoy your new life!

The world is a little grayer and fuzzier today, not as bright and sharp without him. RIP.

I never heard of this dude before now. But y'all seem to be pretty upset so I'll go ahead and offer my condolences.

Your vicious attacks need to stop.

I'll say this though, that Casey Musgraves chick in the video in this thread is a hot box of rocks.

outlaw country was playing Sam Stone while I was driving home after getting my weekly dose of Covid at the grocery store. A singalong to be sure.

He was a favorite of mine. As I posted in the Music, Books, Movies forum, an old TTips mag turned me on to him 20 years ago. I think he was Telepariah on here- thanks dude. I got a lot of joy listening to Prine over the years.

And thank you JP. You're a legend.

The man could write a song.

"All the snow has turned to water
Christmas days have come and gone
    Broken toys and faded colors
Are all that's left to linger on
I hate graveyards and old pawn shops
For they always bring me tears
I can't forgive the way they rob me
    Of my childhood souvenirs"

    Man. This one hurts.

Thanks for the soundtrack Mr. Prine. My ski bum uncle introduced you to me many, many years ago during my first trip to Colorado. Your songs have been a fixture throughout my life since then, all attached to memories. You are missed.

Funny. Same thing happened to me with a beer. I was so god damned sad last night. Fell asleep with the just opened beer on the table, and the dogs on my lap and woke up to some peace. Listened to this Austin City Limits show again in the garage today while doing some wrenching. Brings a tear to the eye but brings some peace. https://www.pbs.org/video/john-prine-8tbu28/

It's not that sad when he lived a full life, was ready to die, and gave the world a ton of good music. At some point they are going to have an Irish wake for him I bet, and its going to be a big party remembering all the good times.

So for country music fans is this guy's death as big a deal as Jerry's death was for Deadheads?

He wasn’t country. Though he did twang.
    I would say folk rock.

And not as earth shattering as Garcia passing To deadheads. .
But such a great poet and songwriter, with a simple blue collar background.
He will be missed. Wish I made the effort to see him one more time.

Alt country/bluegrass/jamband/Americana is where his influence lies and legacy will live on - not pop country where is is likely unheard of by many. Pretty big deal. Not Garcia big but that is apple to oranges.

Not country, think Dylan with a better sense of humor.
