Shifts arrived broken - does this piece matter?

Ordered shifts from REI, came with a small piece broken:

On the back of the toepiece, there's that little part you mount down with two screws and then "slide" the toepiece onto before mounting the middle screws. The center tab of the "rail" came broken. See photo, one side has it, one does not.

It's a pretty flimsy piece, looks like just enough to hold the mounting piece when you screw the binding down.

How important is this piece? Will I be fine without it? (trying to avoid dealing with a return because shit's cray)

Just contact REI. They will exchange no problem

Yes but they need to return and re order and I bought this with... Two dividends and a gift card. Sort of a pain if this is just not a problem piece.

It's not an issue, just ski 'em!

All that tab does is keep the sliding piece from falling off when it's in the open position to mount the binding. Won't make a bit of difference once it's mounted.
