    Buying Food On-Line

Anyone buying meat, fish and/or veggies on-line? Lately, I have been asking friends about this, and the following websites/companies have been recommended:
    pikes place
    snake river ranch
    D'Artagnan
    Wild Alaskan Company

Has anyone used these services? Each seem pretty expensive to me. I wonder whether buying this way is much more expensive than driving to Smiths, Fresh Market or Whole Foods. In light of the recent carnage, I wonder whether it is worth doing business this way for a while?

Does this count as a corona thread?

We have used grocery delivery service before and during coronavirus pandemic.
It is a little more expensive and the quality might be the same or slightly poor than the store.
Lately it is nearly impossible to get a spot to get delivered, so check the availability first.

Well yeah, of course they are fucking expensive. They are specialty purveyors who market to dentists and the like.

I just checked out D'Artagnan and the first four items listed are Wagyu burger patties, duck leg confit, 'Moulard Magret' duck breast, and D'Artagnan Rohan duck breast. For fuck's sake, they have an entire CATEGORY of foie gras. Not exactly the boneless chicken thighs from Fresh Market, which are currently $1.99 pound.

This is definitely a corona thread but probably the most ridiculous one yet.

edit: Hurry up, time is running out for 30% Frenched veal chops!

I tried buying food online from a couple of places only to find at the checkout that out of a dozen items or so they were out of stock of everything we wanted except for one or two items so I said fuck it. We've been shopping online with Walmart and having them bring it out to the car which seems to work for us for now. And yup the Walmart here is out of a lot of stuff too.
You know, you can swear on this site. Fuck, shit bitch. See?

D’artangnan sells some killer duck and foie. Used to get it and give it as a Christmas presents. Couldn’t see myself using it to get through this crisis.

Snake River seems real expensive for beef, too. I've received fish from Pikes Place before, but it was sent to me by someone who was actually there.
I just checked out D'Artagnan. They have normal beef and veal, but $39 + ship for one veal chop and $25 for 1 6oz filet mignon is expensive. Still cheaper than eating out

Fk that. Wait a week to get shit meat and wilted, mushy veggies and a leaky milk carton and pay more for it. Biggest waste of $70 I've seen in a long time.

no idea where this thread is going but will jump in early.
for fish I will recommend https://www.senasea.com/
this guy is a friend of mine. Two years ago he purchased https://www.sixtynorthseafoods.com/ along with another fisherman and people I know.
The last two years have been tough due to things out of their control. First year poor returns shut down Copper River Fishery. Last year late summer drought closed the commercial silver season on the Copper River. This year much uncertainty with the caronavirus.
He bought the processing facility to produce a high quality product. I have him do all my processing. The fish are processed using ozonated water. I have no slime when the fish is defrosted. The fish is wrapped in a parchment paper before vacuum packing.. This helps prevent freezer burn. After almost a year my fish still looks beautiful.Click image for larger version.

I've been looking for an online purveyor of pangolin meat. My Chinese source dried up.

    Pangolin fetus is yummy.

Most people now are force-feeding corn with a feeding tube into ducks at home now. Good learning experience for the kids on where your food comes from.

I never go to Wally World for groceries but we have used it twice this week because they have slots available where other stores around here are 3-4 days out. You have to order the day before then you pull in to a slot on your appointed hour and the app tells them you are there and in what spot and they come out and put the food in your trunk and you leave. They sign for you and don't say good bye when they walk away. Most items are limited to 2 each. It is cheap and easy and you never have to actually step foot inside the intolerable stores.

    Fuck Walmart. That is all.

My ex suggested instacart but they don't seem to give a shit about their employees either so back to the locally owned grocery store I go.

How can you be sure the owner doesn't beat his wife and watch child porn? Benny found this out the hard way when he got his Full Tilts fitted.

We just signed up for a local milkman. Eggs, coffee, milk, and cream delivered every other week for $22. I am excited for our first delivery Friday. Prices are similar to wholefoods, delivery is free if you order over $10...

Imperfect produce can be fun. Doesn’t really save you money.

The meal delivery services; hellofresh, blueapron, etc... are also fun but are almost as expensive as going out.

Amazon and Safeway delivery/pickup work well enough for staples. Although they are overrun with business now.

I have a disabled friend who has been basically getting 100% of their groceries delivered for almost a decade... only complaints are receiving a few bad apples sort-of-speak.

I have a coworker who for the past year or so has been doing a meal delivery service combined with Amazon fresh for staples. They have reduced their grocery store trips to like 2 a month...

The high end purveyors OP mentioned are really for gifting... no one is buying copper river salmon for $49/# from Pikes and getting it shipped across the company for Tuesday’s dinner with Mom and the kids....

I have a feeling the good people at D’artangnan might be more efficient than me at this but if my foie reserves run dangerously low I’m going this route. Thanks in advance.

    Yeah fuck em. Agreed.

But right now I'd rather not wade through a fucking grocery store and catch covid19 from all the people who still think this is a hoax so I can 'maybe' prevent coughing blood out of my lungs in a big white tent during tornado season. So I go to Wal Mart for pickup for the same pragmatic reasons I sometimes ski with Trumptards.

When I was up the blue ridge mountains this weekend every farmers market I passed was more full than the local Whole Foods parking lot. Wall to wall people fleeing the cities for that good clean country livin.

No thanks, I’ll use curbside pickup and delivery.

Stay away, city boy. Christ, it's bad enough with all the New Yorkers escaping down here to their "farm houses".

We've been doing WF delivery. Available times are sparse, but they do pop up. We get a cart ready, and refresh the page regularly until a slot becomes available. Looks like they're about to strike, though.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Regarding Pike's, someone sent me about 10lbs of fish (King salmon and halibut) for X-mas. I can only say that it was some of the tastiest fish I've ever eaten.

When posting the OP, I was kind of hoping that a maggot would say that they are familiar with Snake River Ranches....local dudes....great product....give them a try.
However, it seems that the company may be nothing more than a glorified Harry and Davids.

There are ranchers in and around the valley. We found a couple at the farmers market in Pioneer Park (or was it Liberty?) that were willing to do bulk. I would think those or similar options still exist there.

ETA, I realize that's not online, but it's also not going to a vector market.

I subscribe to ButcherBox and Daily Harvest. Great products, reasonably priced. With Butcher I get free bacon and ground beef for as long as I am subscriber, even if I pause my account. So I've been giving away a lot of ground beef to friends and co-workers. The latest meat delivery arrived right before the shit hit the fan. I also got a sous vide for christmas and pretty much do all my steaks, burgers, salmon, chix in it.
