Best WiFi range extender with Ethernet port?

Wifey will be WFH, looking for the longest range/best signal extender with an Ethernet port. There are quite a few options, anyone have experience with these? We have a cheapie, but she only gets one bar.

Easy to use and the secondary unit has three Ethernet ports.

Also has circle. So you can turn off the kids porn access.

Years ago I had tried repeaters or range extenders. They all sucked.

I just bought a Linksys velop. 1 "router" 2 aps that create a mesh network. Each AP has 2 Ethernet ports. Whole package was $149 on woot.com couple weeks back. Getting near 500mbps throughout entire house. Motivation was newly finished basement.

Woot.com has all variety of new "mesh" systems pop up so keep an eye.

It’s cool. The Orbi app lets you group devices by MAC address

A quick pause on kids devices.

My house is long. WiFi never worked well until orbi.
Extenders are a pain in the ass

Another option if you're slightly technically inclined is a UniFi Ubiquiti Access point. This would plug into the ethernet of your current router, you disable the wifi of your current router and enable the wifi on this. Typical home WiFi routers have 2/3 parts: router, wifi, cable modem (not all). This is just a business grade wifi part. Range/speed is fantastic. When in college I used two of them for 3500 sqft house with 8 college kids living in it plus X amount of friends at any given time (aka a ton of use, think 50 devices at once and that doesn't include social gatherings ) and they were bomber. Another vote for Orbi: my apartment has a fairly detached basement room that is below a concrete garage slab and WiFi never reached well. Now I have my computer hardwired to the satellite router and have plenty of signal everywhere else. The satellites communicate on their own channel so it doesn’t take up any bandwidth. Also very easy to setup

If you have ASUS router use AiMesh it’s good and you can keep sticking older ASUS routers into it as you go.

Asus A.I. mesh is not terribly use friendly, but it works.

I'm super happy with the Eero mesh system. Extends happily through brick walls to my detached garage. Easy to add extra units and configuration is sooper dooper easy.

First question is are you planning or having the device plugged into an ethernet cable or wanting a wireless solution? True Ethernet Wifi Extenders are typically devices that you put half way to extend the wifi coverage, but they come at a pretty good performance hit as they cut your wifi speed in half.

Mesh solutions are a bit better- because they have a 3rd channel for the wifi traffic and then the dual band for the wifi device traffic. Google Wifi, TP-Link Deco, Orbi, Eero, Ubiquiti Dream Machine type of solutions.

TP-Link has a few wifi extenders with ethernet port TL-WA850RE is one low end unit. It is only 300 Mbps (2.4 Ghz only not dual band with 5 Ghz) and then they go up to RE series that are dual band and RE650 goes up to AC2600. They all as far as I know have a single ethernet port (designed for a single device like a TV or wired only device if needed (not to plug in a cable going back to the main router)

1 port available in main router (1 for link to internet) and each access point (2) has 2 Ethernet each.

Another vote for the orbi. Replaced a range extender with an orbi 3 pack. Each has 4 network ports. I've got mine daisy chained with Cat5 backhaul so that only leaves 2-3 ports on each. Big improvement. Extender sucked because it's a different network, the mesh is seamless.

Good advice in this thread already, so not much to add... WiFi extenders suck and any mesh system will be a bit pricier but save +++ headaches. We went with TP-Link Deco and it is rock solid. Range/speed is best if you can hardwire (i.e. CAT5 back to "main" unit), but we have 2/3 wired and speed is still good when connected to the 1 non-hard-wired unit. Over all very happy and how have a closet full of junk WiFi extenders...

One other option: if you have an old wifi router sitting around, there's a good chance you can load dd-wrt firmware and use it as an extender.

Plus 1 for google! Google network is a fresh take on networks. It’s very streamlined, you can create guest networks seamlessly, check upload or down load speeds real time. Google app lets you turn off/on to specific devices, prioritize phones/computers. I have the full Nest ecosystem so all my cameras, thermostats, and nest connects boost the mesh network between by base router and extender router. The routers look clean and blend into the aesthetic of the room.

Just put in an Orbi 2 thingy system. It has been lightening fast for porn surfing. Wifi phone calls are a bit glitchy and even the web can just stop for a few seconds. Not 100% convinced that is the fault of the Orbi. Supposedly we are getting via the Orbi app we are getting 775mbps download and 35mbps upload. This is my parents 2nd house so don't know what their supposed connection is to the Internet.

Relatively easy install. took about 1 rum and coke to execute. Had to try 3 different times to get it to work. Not sure why, but did get it up before I needed the 2nd cocktail.
