And no. All it's done is make me lean into my biases even further BECAUSE it has perfectly illustrated just how inept our government is, on every level. If the government is always useless and ineffective, please do your part to not subject the rest of the world to 4 more years of that hot mess of a president you've got there. Like, it won't matter who's in charge right? So just do me a solid bro. Thanks!

Same here in Teton County, but cross over the county line to Bonneville, and its like the virus never happened. There really seems to be a localized mindset on this, which is ultimately a good thing I guess. The one size fits all doesn't work.

you got inconsistent messaging down there

so what was really needed was a Winston Churchill " I got nothing but blood sweat n tears to give you " speech leading America

instead you got that dumb fuck Trump telling you to drink bleach & pop malaria meds while denying COVID will be a thing

A different response would have done such big things for his popularity and now covid is right in the white house, great ironing

BC and Ontario want to extend keeping the borders closed to the bleach drinking hordes from the south ... I hope that happens

I don't know how anyone with a functioning brain can think this. The reason this has been such a disaster in this country is because of that localized mindset. More than any event in my lifetime, this required top-down, nationwide strategies to be implemented as early as possible.

Should the only response to Pearl Harbor have come from whatever forces the Territory of Hawaii could have mustered on its own? That's analogous to what you're advocating for.

yep. A nationwide plan doesn't mean that every area needs to be treated the same; a "hot spot" might require different resources than a rural area with few/no cases. But clear policy and direction and support from the federal government was needed from the outset; the fact that each state (and in some places counties) had to wing it during a global pandemic is freaking shameful.

In a perfect world, you two really believe the responses to this virus should be exactly the same everywhere? Like NYC doesn't have different challenges and ultimate solutions than rural Idaho?

Come on, I would challenge both your intelligence if you think that is true. In my specific example, Bonneville county is a much more insular community (as in no tourists) than Teton County, which in a normal year will have the equivalent of the entire population of Bonneville visiting our community on any given day right about now. Those are two entirely different challenges when it comes to managing people and virus transmission, their respective economies, and their respective medical capabilities.

Given that, it makes sense that different communities are going to have different rates at which they respond. This seems to be a distinct feature the lock it down people and the open it up people can not see the other side on.

Wondering how state parks or developed campgrounds are going to reopen their bathroom facilities safely. Clean on the hour seems unlikely. Should I get a portable toilet for camping or longer hiking adventures? Or carry a wag bag everywhere?

That really is the main issue on that front, so dispersed camping or avoiding the bathrooms would be smart.

Right. So does anyone have recommendations for portable toilets for car camping?

I think the most concerning thing is the lack of reliable information, and the contradictory information, and the blatant misinformation, and the people that pick and choose what information they believe based on what (or who) most aligns with their personal beliefs. Masks don't work. Now they do. Maybe, sometimes. This malaria drug is a miracle cure. People will die if they lay on a towel at the beach. We must all stay home, but the armed militia in Michigan are good people and that governor is a bitch for telling people to stay home, but the republican governors in other states telling people the same thing are cool, though. Everyone around me is gonna wear a mask, but not me.
And to be clear, I'm not taking sides. Both sides have been talking out of their asses, and that includes elected officials at all levels, media, and individuals. That starts at the top, and we all know shit flows downhill.

Did you just willfully ignore what I said in my post so it could fit your narrative of I'm dumb? Please explain to me what part of "A nationwide plan doesn't mean that every area needs to be treated the same; a "hot spot" might require different resources than a rural area with few/no cases" is consistent with your characterization of what I said, that I "really believe the responses to this virus should be exactly the same everywhere"?

When you start your statement agreeing with Glade, who said that a "top down nationwide strategy" was the solution and proceeded to call me a moron, and follow it up with a similar statement about said top down strategy, it kinda refutes your statement in the middle.

Since you feel otherwise apparently it sounds like we agree and Glade is still an asshole.

a top down strategy is not exclusive of creating different reactions to different stages of recovery in different places

the top down strategy has the effect of coordinating these different locations so they can work together & not be at odds

thanks. I was just typing something similar. why this is so hard for some people to grasp is beyond me. and enough already with the gun toting dipshits at the capitol buildings. Nothing says "we got this" like implied armed takeover.

Pandemic Response 101. This coordination task is arguably a basic function of any national government.

Blaine county (Sun Valley) had infection rates surpassing anything in New York City. Granted, SV isn’t representative of Idaho in general. My dad jumped quarantine two weeks ago and left Blaine county for Sandpoint

Didn't vote for him either, but before you act like the government's only inept under his reign, don't forget how marvelously the rollout of healthcare.gov went.
I've been paying attention to this stuff through countless D & R Presidents. The Federal government can't ever seem to run things in an efficient manner no matter who's in charge. It's just par for the course. It's called bureaucracy. Just the nature of the beast and it only gets worse the larger it grows.

Wouldn't make me any more of a (capital "S") Socialist than it would you a Conservative if you were take advantage of a tax reduction. Or would you just offer up a donation to the US Treasury or maybe your local County Tax Appraisal District out of the goodness of your heart?
