But he went out with a good hand. Played it safe.

Ruby, don't take your love to town.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Every gambler knows
That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner
And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for is to die
in your sleep

Not that he wrote it, but "The Factory" is his best song and a great one to listen to today.

I got married in India with all the ritual, pomp, and confusion that comes with that. Between the main ceremony and reception they have something called wedding games, which are silly little things like cracking wafers over each other that seem to be mostly descended from when they were marrying children off to each other. Most people have abandoned this part of the wedding, but my wife's grandma wouldn't hear of it.
So we're sitting there surrounded by infinite old ladies and little kids being made to do various odd bonding activities when they tell me that I need to sing my wife a song. Now I'm sure that there are some traditional Indian nursery rhymes or something expected of the singer but damn if I knew them. So I freeze. Everyone is looking at me and for some reason the thing that pops into my head is:
"On a warm Summer's evening, on a train bound for nowhere..."

Saw him live in 1978. Great performer.
In order to properly convert this thread to a polyasshat thread to more fully enrage the liberal left frequenting here...... (insert latest democratic blunder of your choice).
