I always thought Gone With the Wind has a real post-apocalyptic feel to it.

Indeed. Just found my copy last night. Will have to revisit that one!
How about PRE-apocalypse? I REALLY liked "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World": https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1307068/
I thought Steve Carell was brilliant in it. The whole movie just rocked my emotional world. Seemed a very probably depiction of what things would be like if we knew "the big one" was on its way. And damn, that ending. Whew! Excellent film. Check it out.

Watch Threads from BBC made for TV in 1984.
For a little comparative analysis, a complete nuclear holocaust will make this current Pandemic look more manageable.
It is simply the most horrific film ever made.

What are you talking about?
The movie starts and everything is hunky dory and at the end an invading army destroys everything and they are living in holes in the ground.
What takes the edge off is that the main characters are unlikable and deserve what's coming to them. Still doesn't change the fact their world got apocalyptic real fast.

This is so bad it is great. Jan Micheal Vincent and George Peppard with a bad southern accent. Memorable line, "This town in inhabited by Killer Cockroaches".I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.
"Happiest years of my life were earning < $8.00 and hour, collecting unemployment every spring and fall, no car, no debt and no responsibilities. 1984-1990 Park City UT"

^Rover was pretty well-done. I enjoyed it.
To add: Desolate and Here Alone are worth watching. Both are on Netflix. I really liked Here Alone.

Denzel as Eli would never have been possible without Fred Williamson first paving the way in THE NEW BARBARIANS (aka Warriors of the Wasteland) back in 1983...

I am a little surprised and a bit disappointed that this thread is 4 pages deep and there has not been a single mention of Patrick Swayze's fourth greatest film:
And for those nerds with approx 30 minutes to waste:

Watched I am Legend and Children of Men. Spooky stuff. Can imagine the scenarios at a more realistic level than before.
