I always thought Gone With the Wind has a real post-apocalyptic feel to it.

Indeed. Just found my copy last night. Will have to revisit that one!

How about PRE-apocalypse? I REALLY liked "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World": https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1307068/

I thought Steve Carell was brilliant in it. The whole movie just rocked my emotional world. Seemed a very probably depiction of what things would be like if we knew "the big one" was on its way. And damn, that ending. Whew! Excellent film. Check it out.

That’s a good call. I liked the scene when they visited the restaurant

Watch Threads from BBC made for TV in 1984.

For a little comparative analysis, a complete nuclear holocaust will make this current Pandemic look more manageable.

It is simply the most horrific film ever made.

It's predecessor was The War Game. Cartoon relative: When the Wind Blows

    What are you talking about?

The movie starts and everything is hunky dory and at the end an invading army destroys everything and they are living in holes in the ground.

What takes the edge off is that the main characters are unlikable and deserve what's coming to them. Still doesn't change the fact their world got apocalyptic real fast.

This is so bad it is great. Jan Micheal Vincent and George Peppard with a bad southern accent. Memorable line, "This town in inhabited by Killer Cockroaches".
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

The Rover (not exactly post-apocalyptic, but pretty bleak)
    Snowpiercer
    Last Train to Busan
    Book of Eli
Cargo w/ Martin Freeman was quite good

    ^Rover was pretty well-done. I enjoyed it.

To add: Desolate and Here Alone are worth watching. Both are on Netflix. I really liked Here Alone.

The opening to that movie is pretty chilling. The rest is pretty hilarious. I haven't seen that since I was a kid

Ha. I remember when you could rig up the free HBO and Damnation Alley would come on. Late 70s. It was pretty bad. Haven't watched since. Did have Kelly from bad news bairs.

While it isn't solely "post-apocalyptic" it certainly includes that in it's vast scope. Cloud Atlas requires immersive attention, but is profound in it's implications. A good movie to watch if you have plenty of time, and are willing to give your mind a journey outside of the moment.

And a great book (and like most books it’s best to read it before you watch the movie)

Denzel as Eli would never have been possible without Fred Williamson first paving the way in THE NEW BARBARIANS (aka Warriors of the Wasteland) back in 1983...

I am a little surprised and a bit disappointed that this thread is 4 pages deep and there has not been a single mention of Patrick Swayze's fourth greatest film:

And for those nerds with approx 30 minutes to waste:

Watched I am Legend and Children of Men. Spooky stuff. Can imagine the scenarios at a more realistic level than before.
