Currently they are talking about $1,200 per adult and $500 per child. That would net us $3,400. Righteous bucks. Could use it right now.

But...I'll believe it when I see it.

And with the 40% of people that support Trump returning their checks to the Treasury to demonstrate their repudiation of Socialism, the rest of us should get more, amirite?

I think that’s the approach , we’ve tried to think of economics relationships we already have and value that are being necessary to be put on hold and/or being willing to be open to alternative options (virtual taekwondo classes and math tutoring) to allow those relationships to continue instead of raising a stink because the value isn’t as high

From a story on Slate.com..........Senate Republicans have now released their hotly anticipated proposal to send families direct cash payments, as part of a wider economic aid package aimed at combating the coronavirus crisis. And hoo boy is it disappointing.

Under the plan, the government would provide households an early tax rebate worth up to $1,200 for an individual or $2,400 for a married couple, with an extra $500 for each of their children. (So far, so good). The payments will be based on a household’s 2018 tax return, or if it didn’t submit one, their 2019 filing.

But the checks will shrink for both low and high earners. Americans with little to no tax liability (aka, poor folks) will only receive a minimum payment of $600, unless they earned less than $2,500, in which case they get zilch. Low-wage workers who don’t have a federal tax return for 2018 or 2019—adults generally aren’t required to file one they if earn less than the standard deduction—also won’t qualify for the early rebate. (They could still get it next year if they file taxes for 2020, but by that time it will be a bit late.) Meanwhile, the payments phase down for workers who make more than $75,000 and drop to zero for those making $99,000 and above (double those numbers for joint filers).
what's so funny about peace, love, and understanding?

American ingenuity for you. "We're putting together financial assistance for people to help them out during this lean time. How can we do that but still fuck poor people?"

What's the annual income below which people are statistically unlikely to vote?

Ok. We'll make that the cutoff.

I assume the cutoff/eligibility is all determined by tax filings?

In 2009 the $1000 was distributed weekly based on research by Nobel Prize behavioral economist Richard Thaler in that larger sums were typically saved vs small amounts that would get spent transparently:

The centerpiece of the tax package provides credits of up to $500 for individuals and $1,000 for couples, in 2009 and 2010, hence the increase in take-home pay. Individuals making more than $75,000 and couples making more than $150,000 would receive reduced amounts. The Senate bill phases out the credit quicker for families with incomes over $150,00.

Great interview with Richard Thaler if you like economics. Prescient to now:

    Selfish boomers win again

That is why we are pushing to include in Congress’ next stimulus package a $200 increase in the monthly benefit for all Social Security, Veterans, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries through the end of 2021. This will put about $4,000 in the pockets of seniors

Moar $$ that will be put directly into shoring up the consumer driven economy. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Someone has to carry financial water for the oligarchy , and Republican ideology is too make sure that the 1% don't have to do it for themselves.

When the govt money was paid out after 9/11, didn't we get taxed on it during the following tax season? I think so.

    Warren. It’s her idea

Like I said. The stimulus was done via tax credits so you wouldn’t save the money. And it was only $500 for a single. $20 a week for one year. Not sure how it worked for self employed.
