What are the chances that a state government forces ski resorts to close? Washington has banned gatherings of more than 250 people, could they apply this standard?

I would say it's a real possibility at this point...

Not from the govt but self imposed:

I mean I don’t know how long they would last at Berkshire now anyway. We are getting bare quick in southern VT. Sounds like a good excuse not to hemorrhage money in a shitty March.

Alpental/Snoqualmie in WA sent an email saying they are staying open and monitoring things, even after the Governor's announcement. All on mountain concerts/events are canceled. Kids lessons are still on.
Killington will probably still be making snow Saturday night though.

last weekend at the mighty mighty
I have my money on Vail and Beaver Creek closing this weekend. Eagle County has the 3rd highest rate of Positives in the state of CO, behind Denver and Aspen.
I really hope not. We need some outlet right now. Skiing has to be lower risk than most other sports.
Any rumors on the Utah mountains now that there are confirmed cases in SLC?
My bets are on that everything is going to become a ghost town in a week or two. The economy is going to come to a grinding halt for a brief time. Then things will likely resume shortly after.
As far as ski areas in the east closing now that don't have much snow I doubt it's a conspiracy to screw over pass holders but it's definitely convenient enough to make the call. Possibly the right call tho.
dirtbag, not a dentist
Skiing itself ought to be fairly safe. It's the lodges at the base that would scare me. Those places, at least here, are crammed with Texans from between 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. They take their goggles and gloves off, eat and drink beer, cough, blow their noses, talk loudly, then leave, only to be replaced by more folks performing the same activities on an un-sanitized table. And in a closed space with high-density people. This is how shit spreads.
Leave skiing alone, but consider shutting down the restaurants and lodges all over the mountain. It's not like their food is good anyway- Hell, they'd be doing the skiing public a favor.
Daniel Ortega eats here.
