BMT was a riot on the hardtail. I need to get this bike out of Carpet Canyon more.

Evil E is remarkably better than usual. Certainly in better shape than insurgent and ricochet. Rode a crest loop today and I’d be lying if I said the smoke didn’t suck. That said, it was empty and the helicopters and slurry bombers going by were cool. It is nice to descend when you can feel a little safer about climbers.

Same observations. Dropped Ms Boissal at Guardsman, drove back down to MillD and spun up my regular route to the top of Crest to meet her. Saw 0 people outside of a gaggle of disc golfers at a Solitude event. Rode slower than usual, you could taste the smoke and I had no desire to further stress my lungs. The view from the top of Puke was almost spooky with the deep haze and declining light. Didn't see a single soul down Deso / MillD, a rare treat. I'll take the hordes and the ability to breathe over this tough...

I-15 closed in Millcreek due to flooding. It's nuts out there. Wonder how many new rock/gravel gardens we're going to discover after this is over. The section of LCC below Tanners was already sporting some nice new sections of creek bed riding after the last major storm... The Days gravel pit has also expanded quite a bit.

One down tree in Days. Requires a get off but it's small enough to take out with a hand saw and fairly low down. I'll try to get up there this week. Some runoff damage but pretty limited overall. The gravel pit seemed about the same. All-time conditions.

Fun ride for sure, thanks for the tour Dan! Great to finally ride with you as well.

I'd initially been thinking I'd want to ride more than this, but after getting up the mtn and back down I was ready for a nap. Super fun trail. A bit pedally in places but I almost prefer that to having to drag brakes all the way down the mountain. Couldn't keep Dan in sight. Can't even play the short travel bike card lol. Climb up wasn't too bad. I definitely walked a bit. Smoke wasn't bad either. You could see it a bit but couldn't smell it, and it didn't seem to affect breathing at all. Ran go pro on the descent so you can all see me ride right past side features I didn't notice til too late.

For sure! I need to plan ahead a bit more to provide some notice. And was saying to Dan, at some point I need to sack up and pay for a campsite nearby for a few days so I can do some more proper exploring.

It pays to flip on the heat layer in familiar areas sometimes.

After the recent heavy rains I'm finding all the sketch loose gravel that's always on top of the super steep foothill trails have been washed out and the surface loose rocks must have been absorbed into the mud and then dried out. Kinda like when an avie comes to a halt, everything locks together. They are 'rock solid' for traction now.

The light was not too shabby up high either. It was raining the whole drive up BCC but I caught a nice weather window for the climb to the Crest and thought I was going to nail the perfect ride. The gnar caught me though, 10 minutes of apocalyptic weather with strong sideways gusts and pelting rain with constant rumbling thunder and lighting. Made the spine bypass much sketchier than riding the main line! Deso in the wet with waning light was a bit unnerving, especially when I came a bit too close to a big old bull sitting on the trail. Smart move removing the head lamp from the pack before leaving the house and not putting the brand new rain jacket in there...
The light show spinning back up to the car at the end was unreal, I don't think I've ever seen such consistent lightning. Everything kept flashing purple which felt very eerie. This was taken when I still thought I'd dodge the storm:

About a herd of 30 just below him down by Miners Camp. Moose are lurking...Saw a bull on Moosehouse and then a cow with 2 calves laying down on the road at the Moosehouse/ Moosepoop junction. yep watch those after work ride times...8pm is getting really dark in the thick forests.
