Mounting skis for the first time help me not fuck this up

Ok I’m mounting rotations on backland 107s

    What drill bit?

    How deep do I drill?

And how does the paper jig account for the bsl of the boot? Do you cut the paper and put the center of the 4 holes the same distance away from recommended?

Thanks for any help I’ll sift through mount your own damn skis but it’s thicc with bs

Ski drill bits are generally 3.5mm wide x 9mm deep for non metal skis and 4.1mm wide x 9mm deep for skis with metal in them. A specific ski mounting drill bit will have a shoulder so as not to drill too deep. Highly recommend owning one.

Measure twice, use a center punch to first mark your holes and to make sure the drill bit doesn't wander, double check, drill once. Good luck.

I typically use the short tack nails, and 2-part epoxy to mount bindings. Saves the effort of drilling.

I never use them (just a tape & t-square) but what a template is good for is to figure out where things go in relationship to ski center line

Without a jig binding mounts are really just good layout so figuring out what you are really doing and why is important and a good reason to dry mount on a 2x4

I like drywall screws, just zing them through and cut off what is poking through the base with an angle grinder.

Whatever fastener you decide to use (drywall screws, rivets, etc.) make sure you use the right glue.

Forget the bindings. Run galvanized sheet metal screws from the bases, through the skis into the soles of your boots.

I missed that you are mounting a TECH , so getting the boot to drop into the pins is a little different than just using a template, which you may not pickup by just reading all those threads

    ^^^ x1000 ^^^

Search for xxx-er's comments on aligning the heel fitting to the pins in that big thread.

After a few practice mounts, you might be ready to mount a real ski.

    Seriously tho, this.

Get yourself some 2x4 and do a couple of mounts and test them to get the hang of it and to see how it goes. Once you feel comfortable, then drill on the expensive stuff.

there are like 142 pages of "stuff" so for the OP this is relevant to what you wana do on AT/tech mounts

" You can use a template or not but first figure out where fore/aft to mount the heel and put it at dead center, then mount the toe dead center by ONE screw only, allow the toe to VERY slightly rotate around that 1 screw, mark/drill all the rest of the toe piece screws with the boot locked into ski mode and everything should line up perfectly

this will ^^ work for any frame type AT binding where you mount the heel and toe independently but they need to lineup/mesh perfectly "

    good luck eh

I've wondered if a tech mounting tips thread is worth a "sticky", but soon, "stickies" would multiply like bunnies and there would be two pages worth of them. Another good candidate is the Repair Your Own Fucking Edge Compression thread.

    and on and on ...
