Things To Do In Dallas When You’re Dead?
So, I have an overnight layover in March at DFW, and I don’t want to just hole up in a hotel with my 12 Y.O. Anything to do downtown on a Friday evening? Any must go restaurants (not fancy)?
Thanks!Forum Cross Pollinator, gratuitously strident

Go to Billy Bob's and try not to bonerize your jeans (maybe without the kid).

I was just there for work. It was ok...
Deep Ellum has a ton of cheap/good food and some good breweries. Select Start is an arcade bar, not sure if they let kids in there though.
I had a pretty decent burger at Frankie's downtown.
You can take him to where Kennedy was assassinated? haha... I found it interesting.

deep ellum is good to walk but is more bars and clubs, for good restaurants; I would search for lower Greenville which is just north of downtown dallas; some great local restaurants there.
however, if you are actually staying near the DFW airport, i'd go to downtown fort worth; some good places there and its easier to get to from DFW airport as I used to do software for ADP right next to DFW. Riscky's is the bbq most go to there.TGR forums cannot handle SkiCougar !

Everyone leaves downtown Dallas after 5pm...it's dead in that place.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.
I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

Yes, quite the ghost town, Dallas... eerie how few people are walking around.

My father in law is dead and resides in Dallas. He lives in a hole in the wall.
I get no complaints.

The Dallas aquarium is pretty good. Feels almost more like a zoo than an aquarium. Maybe the Stars are playing the night you are there? If so go see some hockey.
Fort Worth may be worth a look as well.
If you want something easy, low key and low stress (assuming you are traveling from Lima) you can stay in Southlake Town square. There are restaurants and a movie theater and soulless upscale shopping. It's close to the airport. It's boring AF, but you'll get some rest. If you make it to Southlake, go to the Feed Store BBQ.

Check out the Stars schedule, as well as the Mavs.
As for food, I always liked Del Frisco, but it’s not cheap. I’ve heard good things about Pecan Lodge for BBQ. There’s a lot of new restaurants since I lived there (in a different century), so google around for reviews.
There’s a lot of museums in Dallas, apart from the 6th floor museum, which is worth a visit. There’s also an indoor water park, but it’s not downtown. You’d need a car for that.

The best thing about Dallas are the highways.
You need to go somewhere 4 miles away, then you take seventeen different 8 lane highways to get there.

When I used to live in downtown Ft Worth, I used to like eating at Taverna on occasion. Should be casual enough for you and your kid. Also used to frequent Piranha Killer Sushi. Loads of great restaurants down there actually. Catch a movie while you're down there or maybe check if anything's going on at Bass Hall: https://www.basshall.com/

I think Sushi or Indian might be perfect (we are on our way to Mexico for two weeks, and kiddo is a sushi junkie).
Back to Perú for Spring Break 2021, though!
