Big Sky - newbie
Heading to Big Sky - skiing Mon/Tue/Wed. Never been, mountain looks enormous, not even sure where to start.
Look at the trail map, the Dakota lift area looks like it has a decent amount of glades - how is it?
Also, what are some can't-miss runs? The group likes bumps, glades, and steeps - but nothing requiring avi gear.
Thanks

If we only had a dedicated thread about that area where people discussed such things and was frequented by local mags with local knowledge. One can dream.

As for your queries, if I told you I would have to kill you.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Just pick an area of the hill each day and ski there. You can easily burn a 1/3 of the day just skiing from one zone to the next. I think it's better to commit vs. ski all over the mountain in one day.
I'd probably pick one day to do a tram lap, roll down liberty bowl and lap Dakota and Shedhorn areas. Have a cheeseburger at the yurt.
I'd pick one day to lap headwaters/challenger back and forth.
And I'd pick a final day with cruising groomers on the 8 pack or if you want more off piste, further exploration on the lone tree/six shooter area.
But I'm not a local, I've only skied big sky a few times.

Just remembered, Lone Mountain Sports at the base does excellent repair work on core shots, cheap. You may need them if you venture into untracked places.

Getting off the tram follow the ski patrol lollipops for the least rocky way to the skiing. Or see post 16.
