    RATM Tour

With Run the Jewels, my fav hip hop group. Wayyyyy more stops then previously announced. None in SLC so where do I go?? Should I stick with my Las Cruzes plan? What is the smallest and coolest venue? Will they break up before they get to Canada?

Don't get me wrong, I dig RATM (was lucky enough to see them at Gathering of the Tribes in 1990), but I have always felt conflicted about their anti-captalism stance and the fact that they were on a major corporate label...if they were/are really a band for the people, why aren't they performing for free or at the very least doing something about the assholes who snatch up tickets to resell for exorbitant prices?

$450!!! Who the hell can afford those tickets? Certainly not many of their revolutionary fans...

    Addendum:
Read that "All proceeds from the first three shows — at El Paso, Texas, Las Cruces, New Mexico and Glendale, Arizona — will go directly to immigrant rights organizations. In addition, portions from ticketing, volunteering and donations will be given to several charities throughout the year.", so good on them for that...

    Got tickets for Calgary. Psyched!

Also: fuck scalpers. I was in the queue literally as fast as I possibly could have been. By the time I actually got to pick seats, 90% of the arena was sold out.

Got excited when it said to go to RATM.com for tickets. Then a huge fucking let down when it directed you to ticketbastard.

I was talking to my wife about this very thing. We can go to Firefly and get a four day ticket (don't know if they're selling one day yet) for $300 (which isn't bad, but I'm not gonna go 4 days). Or go to BB&T to see RATM and Run the Jewels starting at $144 (lawn) or $225 (garbage seats).

I'm not against them making $$$$$, but that's not really catering to the hoi polloi.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

And it is not really raging against the machine, either. I mean Ticketmaster IS the machine...

Sarcasm meter broken? Its hilariously true.

I do like their music but their politics is soooo cringe. The hypocrisy is off putting. I saw Prophets of Rage last summer and kept wondering how they could sell $40 tshirts and not feel ashamed.

Perhaps it's because they know that the people buying those shirts are mostly upper middle class white guys?

I mean, yeah, expensive RATM tickets / gear sucks. But it's not like the people who are realistically buying that stuff are downtrodden central Americans. It's a bunch of middle aged guys who can afford it just fine.

If RATM charges exorbitant prices and just keeps that money, then yeah, I'd call them hypocrites. But if they donate a good chunk of the proceeds to charity, that doesn't actually feel hypocritical at all.

RATM was one of my favorite bands back in the day. But for reasons described in the video Ripzalot posted, I'm just not that excited about this tour. Oh yeah, now you have a reunion tour, when people's pocketbooks are ripe for the picking with political angst. Meh...
Prophets of Rage was a letdown too, Chuck D and B-Real just don't have the energy that Zack had back in the day.

Oh yeah, and I'm probably not paying that much for a ticket.

It’s called Redistribution of Wealth. Take it from those who have it and give it to those that need it.

From what I’ve read, RATM members are sincere in their efforts.

Zak has a net worth of $25million.
    Tom is $30million.
How much is a good anti-capitalist allowed to keep?

I bet they are millionaires but those numbers are from some dumb website that made a wild guess. Nobody knows anything about Zach, he could have lost it all like MC Hammer, donating it to charities, or maybe he spent it on weed and women. Who knows, sure is easy to criticize people who go out and do shit to change the world from a keyboard and a chair though, eh?

I may just go hang in the parking lot and see what is available when the music starts. If nothing, so be it.
