Town Downhill GS Suit DIY Options

I gave away my last hot pink GS suit 11 years ago.

Now, I have my super G skis coming in the mail from the friend who had them all these years, and I have to come up with something to wear for our little downhill. I want to actually be fast, so running it in clothes is out.

Thinking either of trying to run it in my surfing wetsuit, although I don't know what to do with the calf/ankle area and not sure if bunching it up will work.....or maybe getting a green-man suit from teh intertoobs, a-la always sunny.

School me on being very fast for very cheap.

A word from the wise: do not attempt to run GS in your polypro long underwear because you don’t have a suit. Tagging a panel will heat it up enough to not only bruise, but also burn you. Ask me how I know.

Hmm. I had kinda considered going with my long undies.
Cheapest and simplest, yet I would rather not sustain burns.

Excellent thread subject/user name synergy, I'm into it.

May I suggest a Borat style mankini?

    You may.
I have to say though, if it's warm enough for a mankini, I'd favor something more King-Kong-Bundy-esque:

That's a fair concern, but having worn a green man suit for a variety of shenanigans in college, I'd caution that they're not much warmer, especially once you get a bit of airflow. Even fleeing campus security in a stolen golf cart at... whatever top speed is for a golf cart was awfully nippy.

Just started paying attention, if you’re running DH then you don’t need to be smacking gates anyway. And if you do panel at highway speeds, it’s gonna hurt no matter what, so... maybe long underwear in a natural fiber? Cotton thermal knit union suit? Sounds like a winner to me.

I bought a gs suit that had fit a 15 yr old kid for cheap, ok if you are just a small AZN man but probably not if you are a big fat white guy.

Spend the money on wax, I bought a chunk of tribloc that made me a winah

I've seen a neoprene wet suit before on the race course. I've seen cycling or running clothes- winter tights and a long sleeve jersey. I've seen Under Armour (Cold Gear) or now any of the cheaper stuff out there now (Russell, Champion, Starter from Walmart, etc.) if you do not want to spend even what they ask for UA. Anything was game if they were interested in a bit of an advantage in beer league or back in the day of the one day trophy racing.

If you are not doing Slalom, then you should be able to not bash the gates by taking a smarter line- especially if this is a Super G or Downhill. Could wear a pair of kids soccer shin guards on your forearms if you have to bash and hit each gate (but will not protect a shoulder or hip) They make the sports protective (padded) underwear also if you have to have hip or shoulder padding from a few companies (Nike etc.), or for shoulder/ arm you could get a Spyder Stealth type of top also.

Or watch Ebay or if there is any Racer Forums out there in your area- Master Race groups, see if anyone is selling a used suit that they have outgrown due to too much beer in their beer leagues.

An event like this seems to beg for a pair of jeggings to be involved in the getup.

How long is a downhill in Michigan? Long enough to even worry about wind drag?

I am of no help and am only here to say that the thought of you crushing a bunch of midwest beaters in a GS suit warms my heart.

Maybe a full Tyvek suit with a touch of Duct tape at the openings so you don't balloon.
Don't fall though, as you may accelerate to terminal velocity pert quick-like.

I’m in for $20 if we can find something suitably vintage and/or ridiculous for IAS to wear that’s actually a little functional.
    focus.
