Can’t let you gimps have all the fun..

Took a stoopid slow speed over the bars yesterday. Bindings didn’t release due to having them up for higher speed crashing scenarios. Heard a loud pop at the end of extension from the over the bars. Once I got rolled over the pain hit me and I knew immediately that I tore my Achilles. Fuck me. Maybe I just strained it real bad. Took another gingerly run and about 3/4 of the way down reality set in of, “ yep, it’s bad”.
Went to the patrol shack and had them help get my boot off and assess. I reached down and pushed on my left Achilles, mushy....
Packed ice around it to drive the 1hr to OSSM in CDA. Saw the nurse who confirmed my fears. Said there is some still attached but I need surgery asap. Luckily Dr. Brown, who specializes in Achilles reconstruction/attachment and is one of the best in the NW was able to squeeze me in his schedule. Surgery is next Thursday.
Ski season is done for this guy. Going to be a long 3 months as I don’t sit idle very well. Hoping to be able to at least hobble into the gym and do some stuff soon after surgery. I’ll see what the surgeon says and go from there.
    Feck.

Oh shit, so sorry to read this. There's not much that's worse than an Achilles rupture.

Bummer man. Sorry to hear. I was non weight bearing for 3 months. Couple things to make you not lose your mind-
-edibles. Much better than pain killers
-find a good show to watch. I had never seen the Sopranos and it occupied a good amount of time.
-get a weight bench if you don’t have one. Keeps you somewhat active without having to be on your feet, and gets the blood flowing.
    -more edibles

You’ll be back at it before you know it. Good luck on the surgery

preemptively get some flowers/gift for the Mrs as a "sorry, but I'm going to be an asshole to live with for the next few months."

Once you get the mobility back the PT goes well and the recovery gets smoother, but I remember things getting pretty dark before the light at the end of the tunnel returned.
Move upside and let the man go through...

It’s a thing. Slow over the bars with no binding release will get ya. Thanks man.
The reality of not skiing the rest of the season set in HARD today. Put away some of my gear. Trying to keep the alcohol at a minimum right now. Trying to focus on fishing season. Probably going to try and empty the boat of rods and tackle before surgery in order to give me something to do while I’m really limited in mobility. Tear apart all my reels. Organize all my tackle etc.

Damn, good sir; that sucks. Heal up!

You can ski vicariously; load “Grand Mountain Adventure” on your iPad. Surprisingly addicting.

I have seen you ski and I swear I have never seen you use that part previously. Fuck fixing it. Safest to burn all that shit and start snowboarding. I hear it is all the rage for gimps.

Fuck that sucks, I’m sorry man. Good luck with the recovery. You’ve earned the right to explore the limits of edible consumption.

My injury wasn’t Achilles, it was tibial plateau. I should’ve clarified. If that makes you feel any better

Bummer. Look into PRP injections after surgery.

I'll send good thoughts while skiing your old Billy Goats. I was hoping your were going to buy my C&D's and Belafontes. Maybe I should put them away until next year.

    Good luck with the rehab!

I had Achilles surgery 9 years ago, from a bad fall skiing.

Lost a lot of leg muscle, then, 4 weeks after the surgery I started electro muscle stimulation and I gained two inches in my quad circumference in a few weeks.

It's hard, you can't watch TV while you're doing it.
The most intense contractions I've ever felt.

    But it works.
