disassembling an old frame? ansel adams

picked up an old ansel adams print that i hope came out of his darkroom in the fifties.

the mat is a little beaten up and i was hoping to replace it.

usually with these nielsen metal frames you have a couple screws in the corner that serve to release the tension but this one appears to have its L brackets glued in place.

should i wack at it with a chisel?

was this a common security thing or do i have some sort of moldy later print?

Might just be a pressure fit
Try hammering on a block of wood.
Wood against the inside of the frame. Tap tap tap to spread apart

That's what I would do. A small grind on those 2 seams.

Let us know what you find.

Be careful. If you find a signature under there: Money. He signed his printing with his name, which are worth a ton, surrogate printers signed with AA. The stuff that came out of the Yosemite factory isn't worth much at all, but, still made from his negs.
