No, my friends son is father of the 12 yo. He told his 50 year son flying to Detroit for a 350 team hockey tournament is totally irresponsible. Flying to Detroit with a "cold" when your wife had a confirmed exposure and is waiting for her test results is to quote my friend "fucking insanity". My friend asked his son how they identified their specific team and the other one that was sent home and he would not give him a straight answer.

Ya, as I posted way up thread, I came back March 2nd from Madrid. All they asked was where was I coming from [on that day], not where had I been. As I also posted I got sick on March 4th and could not get a test for love or money. Some folks commented on my fever dream posting here. I still think I had the regular [Spanish] Flu. Nobody else here got sick.

California has been spared because it's still summer here. If and when the weather changes expect to see us join the rest of the country.

Back to the topic, mofro was your jury duty in person? My friend's in lockdown in her house because she started coughing, no fever but she got a swab test. We'll see what happens, I thought her job would be more helpful with testing as a nurse but I guess not.
Zoom jury selection, a couple of zoom witnesses, but jury and court being done out of the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.

What were your general thoughts about doing jury selection and having witnesses via Zoom?

In any normal world and time this would be the end of a presidency. We have truly boiled the frog.

Its lacking an interactive element and has tech issues, delays. Was nice to not have to pool for jury selection but the zoom witnesses don't have the same impact as being questioned in person imo.

FWIW, Canada has always had its share of idiots. The difference is that they aren't given equal billing.

Yep, we've had a few very loud and public 'activists' refusing to wear masks since the beginning of lock down, and unfortunately their groups of supporters are growing.

This picture was taken at an anti mask rally in Toronto last week.

Not seen in this picture were signs supporting trump, qanon, blue lives matter etc. In Canada. Fuckin white people.

EDIT also I'd mention I don't understand all the Quebec flags, but then again I really don't understand any of what's going on at this point.

FYI, Meydenbauer Center is being used only for civil trials. And the actual trial would still be likely be in person, not zoom. I believe criminal trials are still 100% in person. The logic being criminal always takes precedent over civil and a criminal defendant has a right to in person trial and a right to a speedy trial. Civil litigants can voluntarily accept the zoom conditions or they can just continue until pandemic is over.

"Civil jury trials will take place at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. Voir-dire will be conducted via video and the remainder of the trial will be in-person (and or remote) with appropriate social distancing measures and masks worn."

Got some good news from the in-laws today. FIL and SIL both heading home as they have tested negative for the Covid. Oxygen levels starting to return to normal, so they can recover from pneumonia at home. Finally breathing a sigh of relief around here.

Remdesivir showed up late on Saturday, but they decided to hold off on using it for now. Hoping the MIL doesn't catch it and need it.

Travel over the land border is closed (with exceptions), air travel is allowed.

Tourism is 8.5% Mexico's GDP versus around around 2% for Canada and 2.8% for US. Main reason why Canada is still keeping US out and Mexico aint.

Well, now I live in one of the most infectious places in the country.

Our local news always stretches to find a way to downplay it. The numbers have been going higher and higher. From when most days had nothing new and it was surprising to see 7 or 8 in a day to now 100+ daily, 200+ sometimes. Yesterday the news wouldnít report the infection numbers, saying there was a problem with the numbers...but really it was just that thereís now like 500 new cases in our local prison and 250 new in the community...so their eyes just couldnít believe the numbers, so they assumed the numbers werenít right and reported ďweíre waiting on the corrected numbersĒ instead.

My employer and coworkers have become fatigued with cleaning and masks. They never adopted masks in the office, only when out in public or when there was a board member or media or whatever around. The elderly and vulnerable coworkers who had been staying home in spring and summer when we had no cases are showing up to work again at the worst possible time.

I pick up employees from the hospital, they say itís totally full in there.

A dialysis patient booked a ride from his luxury condo to dialysis today. Because you canít safely get a bus to his condo, my dispatch decided to order me to go with a minivan. We havenít been using those since covid, for obvious distancing reasons. I said no fucking way am I doing that...are you out of your god damn minds? Instead of correcting the minivan idea, they decided the problem was me, and they just sent our bus-cleaning janitor with the minivan instead. I saw her tonight walking around the bus garage just open-coughing, mask on her chin, no hand over the mouth, just open hacking for like 20 seconds. Thatís the person they put in a minivan with a dialysis patient, thatís the person who walks through every bus ďcleaningĒ while she hacks away open-coughing. Itís astonishing.

Every day at my wifeís work they lose more people to positive tests and quarantining...theyíre running out of people to staff the store. Employees are almost surely coming in sick because they need the money.

There were two different people unmasked at the grocery store tonight.
Weíre fucked here. Itís all going to shit.
