my BIL is an ER doc... spent his day intubating people. He has 5 N95 masks- he has to wear one all day and then switch. After 5 days he starts re-using them. He has a plastic face cover thing that someone made him on a 3D printer. So at least he has that extra layer - the other docs are using whatever they could find. Really stressful.

Have him check into
Www.intubationbox.com
And similar websites. I’ve built a few of them
Seems awkward as hell, but it’s actually been used and appreciated.
The idea of intubating these frothy airways with a paper n95 mask is just wrong.
They really need PAPR masks. Hospitals with PAPR don’t need the box. But sadly many hospitals are expecting intubation of an aersolized virus with a poorly fitting paper mask.
Also tell your brother in law to get a p100 respirator if he can find one. Way better seal. And many hospitals are allowing your own ppe since they are running out.. . .

Yeah that's bad, hope it doesn't come to that for us. Our policy, so far, is full positive pressure headgear (PAPR/CAPR) for intubating, no N95s.
I saw one Doc who was using 99 cent clear plastic rain ponchos from Walmart. Actually pretty slick, you can put your hands through the arms and the RT can go in from the side. You need fiber optics for this for sure though, not everyone has it, or enough to go around.
Trackhead who used to post here is making Tyvek PAPR hoods and filter units now too. Pretty fuckin awesome. There's nothing better than sliding down snow, and flying through the air

It’s logical to both live free and resist tyranny and yet have your front line medical providers have ppe and other equipment to work safely.
Maybe I’m suicidal or optimistic but we have to live. It’ll never be the same, but it’s got to be life.
And if I get covid from living life, you are welcome to piss on my grave. Cheers.. . .

Although I’ll give you props for a reserved reply, I’d suggest that people living free in the form of congregating at mass of a few thousand for a fuck you March is going to result in needing more Ppe and more front line workers dying.

How about a period of sacrifice/limited life to help us get to Life? Can't live a little less life now so you can live more life later?? Or must we only be here now???

Agreed. I’m not going to a rally. Or church. Or rock concert.
Yet.
But the last weeks news has seen increasingly fascistic stazi police state bullshit that it’s pissing me off.
No hike to ski?
No surf?
No being in public without a mask?
And yet so many regions never had the overloaded icu ventilator fear porn issue.
So maybe we flattened the curve. Or maybe this was overhyped.
Either way, let’s start to ease back into living.
Instead gubmint is going harder on the oppression.
The rare times I flip on the news it’s all about number of positive cases. Which means jack shit nothing.
Then they emotionally state the number of deaths which is still not pandemic. And not more than normal flu deaths.
40,000 die in car crashes. Let’s ban cars. Etc.
Peace to the deceased. But life must go on. And this is not living.
Shelter in place. No work. Nothing to do. No hope.. . .

The car crash comparison is the height of idiocy.

But your wife is in a hazmat zone. And gravitylover is already going through grief, and living in a hazmat zone, and people are organizing a march there and you told him to stfu.
But I’ll freely admit I’m pissed off, three people in my personal sphere lost people to ratflu today.
And with that I’m headed for steak and bourbon.

Sorry for the losses.
My mom is toast if she gets this.
I may not survive, due to chronic bronchitis
But I am at peace with that.
You can’t hide for long. This flu goes round the world and comes back next year to fuck us again.
This lockdown is not living. It’s subsistence.
And it’s not satisfying enough.
I want to live again.. . .
