    Impossible to know.

You'd expect asspen to know that the fentanyl crisis is a Chinese op so it would make sense that they'd up that effort at the same time as the effort to make the US look stupid on COVID. But quislings gotta keep the blinders on.

Asssspen, https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...cy/6354415001/ explains why (using simple words at your level) Merriam-Webster and CDC updated their definitions of ‘vaccine’. If you’re still curious, PM Mofro and ask if these definitions are correct.

Excited to see what your next right wing talking point will be! And for the record, obviously I see some of the communication blunders CDC made.

I had Covid in May. Is it more likely that I had Omicron or BA.5, or is that impossible to guess?

    I think Omicron.

(I think I can hear Kid Creole saying that for some reason: "Why can't I be more like Omeecron...").

Back in May we all had either BA.2 or BA.2.12.1. BA.5 didn't take off until Mid-June. (But all are Omicron lineages)

Thanks for your thoughts. Some months ago I did a related search about deprogramming qanons. I found this reddit page with links and started working my way down, but didn't find anything that resonated and stopped.

That's definitely more on-topic. I haven't tried to de-program anyone, so mostly coping these days, but I should reach out again to a few more and that link collection may help. Thanks!

I think for heavy apophenia addicts it may be easier for the plot to evolve than to scrap it. I have kept in closer contact with a couple of people that bought the big lie and most alt-right theories of disease and non-prevention. It's been easier to discuss some of this with at least one of them since Pootin showed his hand in February. (Prior to that Russian anti-wokism was an attractant that covered all sorts of stupidity even when q-isms were run to ground.) I've maintained for a while that American resistance to vaccines, masks and basically anything with a low cost/benefit ratio has been weaponized and encouraged by our enemies. Now that some geopolitical aims have been clarified its harder to deny the nefarious motivation for that propaganda.

I don't know anyone that's planning to exit the cult of anti-woke info stream yet, which is why I'm in coping mode: there's very little point in detailed discussion. Where once there was an intellectual back and forth, now it's just desperate rot. But at least there's some recognition that the feed has been compromised.

Who was that famous woman who sent her servant to get water from a certain source because she liked the taste? And it turned out the water was contaminated with human waste. That's my working analogy for the Qers and related ilk.

    Blerg. Mask up people!

Why the Omicron offshoot BA.5 is a big deal

What's at stake with continued spread

There are also more insidious health risks to consider. A recent preprint study that compared the health of people who'd been infected one or more times with Covid-19 found that the risk of new and sometimes lasting health problems rose with each subsequent infection, suggesting that reinfections are not necessarily benign.

Although vaccination reduces the risk of getting long Covid, a certain percentage of people have lasting symptoms after a breakthrough infection.

That's another reason why high numbers of Covid-19 cases are a big deal: Because the virus is still spreading wildly, it has every opportunity to mutate to make even fitter and more infectious versions of itself. It's doing this faster than we can change our vaccines, leaving us stuck in the Covid-rinse-repeat period of the pandemic.

On Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, pleaded with Americans to use all available tools to stop the spread of the virus, including masking, ventilation and social distancing.

"We need to keep the levels of virus to the lowest possible level, and that is our best defense. If a virus is not very robustly replicating and spreading, it gives it less of a chance of a mutation, which gives it less of a chance of the evolving of another variant," Fauci said in a news briefing.

In fact, this is already happening.

That was concerning to me too when I first read it but then I also heard that study on multiple infections was from the VA which has an older and generally sicker group so the findings are limited at this point.

You want to play Russian Roulette with your health?

Regardless of who the study group was/is the fact remains that we need to keep this virus from spreading and mutating or we are never going to get out of this cycle.

respectfully, KQ, I do not believe we are going to get out of this cycle -
an article I read earlier this week promoting the Noravax vaccine claims 1/3 of the country remains defiantly Unvaccinated --

with the statistics claiming prior infection is increasingly Less protective against reinfection with the variant strains, welcome to the new normal -

    > 700,000 confirmed new cases weekly,

    More than 1500 deaths weekly
( the numbers I have seen weekly since March are between 250 and 350 daily )

    almost 100,000 deaths annually...

But hey ! we have the freedom Not to protect ourselves, our family members, nor our neighbors --

    Good luck !

Agree. There’s no way enough people will go back to major life disruptions unless people are dying in the streets from a mutation.

Wife was down and out for the count yesterday and today.. wicked migraine, light and sound sensitivity. She doesn't get migraines. I wore the KN95 mask everywhere around other people out and about today. If she's still sick we'll test tomorrow, would be day 3-4 of symptoms so hopefully the rapid test will catch it if it's COVID again...

I had some chills/night sweats last night. Yay! COVID!

Unless we are prepared to forcibly enforce a zero covid policy ala China govt mandates don't make much difference. In places with masking mandates, vaccination requirements, and restrictions and in places without any of these some people will be observing them and some people won't. Infection rates will be determined by people's individual behavior, education, economic status, health status, vaccination status, social norms in their communities, and whether or not they see people dying around them. I am masking more because my brother, his girlfriend, my niece, my son and DIL all have had covid in the last few weeks--all for the first time-- and more other people that I know as well. Right now the people I see wearing masks most often are young people working in stores and restaurants. It's one thing to be potentially exposed to a few people for minutes to an hour, it's another to be exposed to lots of people all day.

The shitshow at the airports will probably do more to slow infection than anything--and it won't be covid keeping people from flying.
