    I said
~80-90% of carriers are asymptomatic or mild symptoms

    ~50% are asymptomatic.

If we cross-reference with those who have symptoms severe enough to be tested and tested positive 80-90% require no hospitalization (mild symptoms) and 10-20% (depending on age group) fall in the hospitalization category. Thats straight from the CDC.

That means 5-10% of the those who catch the virus (depending on age, health, etc. will be hospitalized)

    Which is terrifying

In addition, the consensus seems to be 60-70% of the population will be infected over the next year(s)

So no there's really no hope of stopping this until a vaccine, antibody test comes to fruition.

What we've done is push it into waves, with the hope that we can build a treatment/vaccine faster than it can mutate.

    Whaat? No apres ski parties?

So far, no transmission of the virus in supermarkets, restaurants or hairdressers has been proven," explained Bonn virologist Hendrik Streeck on the ZDF Markus Lanz talk show.

Instead, the major outbreaks have been the result of close get-togethers over a longer period of time, he said.

That's demonstrated in, for example, outbreaks that have stemmed from après-ski parties in Ischgl

Speaking of rat erotica, anyone remember Mattioli’s book Squeak the Mouse? If you’ve never seen it, I recommend the Googles; the whole thing is available. NSFW.

John Oliver didn't locate the artwork yet, but said something about having something to update us on very soon. So maybe next week?

Fuck! CT just extended their stay at home and business closures to May 20th at least. My father in law is going to lose the last of what's left in his head, the near complete lack of socialization has accelerated his dementia to the point where it's nearly impossible to communicate with him anymore. Now he's going to be locked in for at least that much longer Fuck! The place he lives lost another 3 residents this week to the virus and there are 4 more employees that are out because they're sick. We're not even allowed to take him out... Fuck!

New York City will bury unclaimed bodies on a remote island after 14 days because coronavirus deaths are overwhelming morgues

Uggh the mental health situation in my house just turned sour. My wife is so bummed about her dad being locked in and she can't even go see him because his apartment is interior so he can't come to a window and see us. He's 94 and fading and she is afraid she'll never get to hug him again. How do I keep her from losing it? Fuck...

Potters Field. There's almost a million bodies buried on that Island. It's where the indigents and even those that are so poor they can't afford burials are put to rest. Buried standing up to make more room. They put the call out to prisoners at nearby Rikers for the labor. A little exercise and fresh air. Considering what Rikers is like inside, it's like a vacation, I'll bet.

I learned how to sail a boat way back off of City Island right across the water. Couple of sailing schools there. Very creepy to find out what was going on on Hart as we cruised by.

You can do all of those things in scuba regulator.

That's terrible. I'm so sorry she has to go through with that.

My boyfriend's boss' wife is in the same situation.
They just moved her 91 year old mother from nursing home to COVID hospital for terminal patients.
She has pneumonia from coronavirus and her lungs are failing.
I don't think she can ever see her mother again while she's still alive.
