Well, currently, most to all of the relevant agencies aren't issuing permits, and the parks (or Yosemite, at least) are closed to entry by any means. So, basically, thru-hiking isn't happening right now in the high Sierra. Except for people who are out stealth-style, which, by definition, sacrifices the usual access conveniences.
But I assume once permits are being issued, it's game on for the thru-hikers. That may happen fairly soon, or should at least, as wilderness travel has to be near rock-bottom for virus spreading potential. Ix-nay on the Reds Meadows resupply, but most of the rest should work fine. I'm sure VVR will be open, with some modifications in the cafe service.

Fear and Loathing, a Rat Flu Odyssey
New Hampshire is always in the top five for most livable states, year in and year out. It just is. Almost zero crime, seriously safe place to live. Business friendly, lots of opportunity. Sea coast, lakes and mountains. Low taxes, easy place to retire. I’ll never leave.

we have a public HC system where the politicians listen to what the top doc's ( Bonnie Henry & Teresa Tam ) say, not the other way around, essential goods (2 billion worth) still cross the border but the border is closed for another month to non-esssential travel.
The PM (who had & recovered from covid) has the say on openning up the border, so far he has acted on the recs of the public HC proffesionals and there are not karens demonstating to open the border so they can buy shoes at nordstroms so in other words its not political
how things are looking down there in another month might be key on whether the border is kept closed for another monthLee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know

FWIW, I like NH a lot. Some of the wildest parties growing up were in towns just across thee border. Just always had to remember to slow the roll once across or you might up paying a lot for a realignment.
Gorgeous sliver of the north east. While NH May skew red in the region, it is left of center overall on the big scale.

Got some Larry Bird converse all-stars from the outlet in North Conway - I was a materialistic kid because I remember that as the highlight of the area and not the mountains.

I would imagine that during at least part of the 7 weeks they would of tried some sort of SDing. But very hard as you say. I think there are only two cafeterias on a CVN . It would be interesting to see the breakdown by dept as I would imagine mess decks would be by dept , so the people you work with you also bunk with.

I've started wearing my girl's white silk Victoria's Secret panties over my face to Costco. They feel very nice on the skin. And there are some good laughs to be had with folks who have a sense of humor. I thought of maybe adding a small line of strawberry jam to the crotch for effect, but haven't done that yet. LOL
I'm not sure if I have the nerve, but I fantasize about wearing a leather gimp mask with the zipper over the mouth. I asked my girl if she would go to Costco with me wearing it... while having a dog collar round my neck... with her holding the leash. She says she draws the line at gimp mask, but that would be a hilarious! It would be an excellent troll. If anyone has the balls to do that, I'll gladly buy you a beer. LOL

Active cases at the time of testing, which didn't include testing for antibodies, so the total number of sailors that had the disease could be much higher? also, 26% infection rate is "low" in your view? Regardless, this is a relatively healthy population compared to the rest of the US. I'm not sure their death rates or rates of serious complications are indicative of the general population.
Damn shame, throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that

Most thru hikers had their permits in hand before Trump flu hit. The PCT permit covers all jurisdictions along the hike they were permitted for, and these permits weren't cancelled by the Forest Service. But the Forest Service isn't issuing new permits and the hikers have to follow the terms of the permit they had. Which means respecting local rules and closures. Not sure how that works when California is still under state wide stay at home order. The PCT permits are also restricted this year to starting on the date and location on the permit, not skipping ahead or back, and hikers were only given a certain number of days to get through the Sierras too, to avoid them bunching up in spots due to snow or other issues. I'm sure if the Forest Service wanted to enforce this could screw up a lot of peoples' hikes. But all levels of government only seem to be enforcing extreme circumstances. Closed resupply points will no doubt make it harder for them if they are let into the parks. Current update from PCTA/USFS from May 18: https://www.pcta.org/discover-the-trail/permits/
