Am I in the clear? I've been home from China for 12 days now, been in self quarantine for those days. I'm ready to go out int he public.
Can one of you experts give me the green light to go back out in public.

- Chinese apparatchiks deservedly received a lot criticism for initially ignoring and then downplaying the severity of 2019-novel-Coronavirus but the response from Chinese doctors and nurses has been heroic.
Because protective gear is in short supply front line hospital workers wear one level-3 suit without breaking the seal, no eating or drinking or bathroom breaks, for an entire 8-12 hour shift. In one hospital with an even greater shortage of protective gear workers went without and two-thirds of the medical staff became infected.
- As a result of the State putting its weight behind containing the virus, over the last couple of days new case counts have been dropping. That doesn't mean there aren't more total cases but the rate of growth appears to have flatlined.
It still took ~8 months to fully contain SARS and there's still a chance 2019-nCov will spread in other countries, so not out of the woods yet, but it looks like containment in China is working.

Lots of S02 produced by burning coal too, and we know they don't do any of that of China.
Did anyone else hear the interviews with several people who have been diagnosed with it and are quarantined on the cruise ship? They all reported being asymptomatic and that they would never have known they were sick unless they were told they had this virus.
Are people really getting sick or is this how martial law and a major crackdown on freedom of movement starts?

If this is like most viral infections, up to 90% of the cases will be asymptomatic or have mild symptoms no worse than the common cold/flu and no hospital visit needed. A recent modeling suggests maybe less than a 1% fatality rate based on under-reporting mild disease, which is on par with some of the more severe Influenza pandemics in the last century. But for those infected exihibiting with severe lower respiratory symptoms, the fatality rate may be as high as 15-20%.
Move upside and let the man go through...

As a long time windy.com geek, I have frequently stopped to marvel at how a few of the pollution metrics typically look over China. Great source material for the likes of zh though.

I teach at a college with a large Chinese student population. The population level panic and preventive measures are pretty wild. The mask rules are serious and a big problem as there aren't enough masks. So it's very hard for some people to get basic necessities as they can't access transportation without a mask. In worse areas, everyone is on house arrest basically and social services workers are bringing necessities to the house, but there aren't enough social services workers so it makes for hungry days between deliveries.
