Ultimately 12000 Americans died of H1N1 flu, although that was over about 9 months, not the 43 days in the graphs. That sharp upturn in the coronavirus track is worrisome--seems too soon to say if ominous.

I'm hoping the exponential growth curve will blunt in the next week. If so, that means the draconian measures are working in China. If not, I think it is indicative of impending pandemic. The other red flags for me will be widespread person to person transmission outside of China or an exponential growth curve on the non-China cases which we would probably also see over the next week.

I fully expect the WHO to declare an emergency shortly.

Maybe, but I’m still gonna take the advice just in case.

While I know airlines are dropping flights from China mainly because people are cancelling trips there and money is lost and not because airlines are trying to stop the spread, overall this move won’t do much to stop anything. They will instead fly to Moscow, Instanbul, etc. and then get to the states. I just flew to NYC from overseas going over the Atlantic and there were a TON of Chinese on the plane. I was surrounded by them, hope I don’t get sick too. I particularly liked the 18 year old who was doing the double-paper mask technique sitting next to me. Double the protection, double the fun! I made sure to fake cough when he switched to a new mask and was temp unprotected because, well, I’m a dick.
