Because Canadian doctors are more virtuous? Humans are humans. If shit gets as bad as you seem to think, you don’t think Canadian doctors and nurses will stay home.

Treatment options are limited. Nursing care is what will be needed most. Regardless, if it comes to that, doctors and nurses will work themselves past the point of exhaustion and then get up the next day and do it all over again.

A friend of mine in Italy posted on Facebook that they are now shutting down ski resorts in Italy due to coronavirus.

[now I see this has already been posted here. Hard to keep up!]

America imports a lot of drugs from India whose export has been banned by India because of potential shortages there due to lack of Chinese ingredients they use. I've googled around some but can't find a complete list, I'd like to know what's going to be in short supply and plan for it if needed. I know Acetaminophen is one of them, I don't use it but if you do it's probably gonna get hard to come by. A link or cut/paste would be appreciated.

1 and 4 are excellent ideas. I've suggested both of them here. I would think people would check their own fever and their kids' but I suppose if someone has to go to work and has no one to look after the kids.

That's deliberate--empty hospital beds and duplication of services like MRI machines drive up the cost of health care and promote unnecessary hospitalizations, tests, and procedures. Having a health system with the capacity to manage a pandemic would be like building and staffing ski areas so that there are no lines on powder saturdays

Sad we all have to experience it regardless
Doctors, including me, don't know much about public health, pandemics, etc--except the ones conned in to getting their MPH while trying to get into med school. We do know that our health care system sucks.

It's a dangerous error to make because the former inevitably weighs heavily on the latter.
I don't recall criticizing hospitals or commenting on criticizing hospitals. I haven't been in a hospital since this started. I've read that a lot of nurses are criticizing hospitals for the lack of training and protective gear. I will defer to them.

Hopefully most patients will not be in the ER or UC--they'll either stay home or be admitted directly to intensive care/isolation. Only a few specialties will be involved--mostly lung specialists/intensivists. Most work too hard to play golf and the great majority will show up. In any case, the brunt of the work will fall to the nurses--as always--and the public health people, virologists and other basic scientists, also first responders.

Plenty of fentanyl around if tylenol is in short supply. Oh wait, that comes from China too.
