Officially lost a huge amount of my 2020 income directly as a result of the coronavirus. I can't wait until it actually is a problem here, then: I'm doomed. My retirement money should take a nice hit too.

Really? What industry are you in?

I'm seeing trade shows in my industry canceled and bigger events, but haven't noticed anything else...yet.

My kid has to go work the South By Southwest but they are currently doing a stop loss analysis for the company they're representing. All the big online social guys have already bailed.

Considering using Corona to cook my brats this evening... should I play it safe and use the Pliny instead?

if you have the ability to short a market index, you should do it. things might turn around in april but they might not turn around this year. people tell me all the time the market always comes back, true; but you never get back the time that you spend getting back to even.

too bad about sxsw, the music is worth going. unfortunately, probably one of hundreds of events that are cancelled in the next couple of months. would not be surprised if some musicians cancel out at Breckenridge's spring finale with summit county having had a positive case.

Ro was assumed to be 1.1 - 2.6 (not sure why it's a range)
Fatality rate was 14%. It's a little unclear, it may be 14% of the 50% of victims who are severely infected, i.e. 7% of all victims - it's not phrased well.

So the Ro is probably in the ballpark but the death rate is almost certainly high, regardless of whether it's actually 7% or 14%. either way, the 65M deaths would appear to be quite high.

Soo Trump is going to bail out the air and cruise industries (obviously an essential industry), but do nothing to mandate sick days, pay for medical bills, vaccines, quarantines, etc? Is that right?

Thanks guys. Not SXSW this year, but something same but different, times 2.

Hopefully it'll lead to new things.

Wife was fucking pissed she wasted a trip to Costco.

It’s easy to get caught up in the 1 or 2 or 3 or 3.4 percent total death rate, I mentioned it the other day. Not that I want lung scaring, but chances are I’ll be ok. Way more worried about the slew of elderly relatives.
100 people in the Washington nursing home, 11 dead = 11 percent in that tiny sample. A graph was posted a page or two back saying 14% for over 80. Grim numbers if they’re real.
