Personally, I bet the Trump team was killing time and Americans while dumping billions in stocks between the lot of them per this guy's advice: https://www.propublica.org/article/s...s-preparedness

@Spats, let me elaborate. Sending everyone $1000 (and hey, $500 for the young ‘uns!) will do absolutely nothing to mitigate the virus spread or the effects of the disease on people. Comparing it to curing cancer, even mentioning curing cancer when discussing that bald-faced attempt at bribery is something only the most craven of Trump dick-suckers would attempt.
Yup, the assholes screaming for all the bailouts on the shoulders of tax payers can go suck a bag of dicks. Companies need a bail out = stock for the corresponding amount held be the US Treasury and seats on the board held by AOC and crew. The irresponsible buybacks that left you with no rainy day fund are your fuckin problem. Now deal with the reaming the average American will give you via the UST/FED. Will never happen though as the fix is in for the sheeple. Same as it has always been.

The churches, homeless shelter, and library are all closed....
And today the public transit agency I work for just announced free bus fare. So now every bored laid off person will cram on the bus with homeless people trying to stay warm cramming together with the fragile elderly who need the bus to get to food/medicine/dialysis etc.

Continuing to operate strikes me as irresponsible but understandable in some sense. Making the thing free, which effectively turns us into a rolling homeless shelter, is indescribably reckless given the number of vulnerable and/or elderly people who also use the system.

I’d like to see the people who decided this sit on the bus getting coughed and sneezed on by drug addicts for 8 hours. I’d like to find the coughing-est smelliest bedbug-having-est sickest-ass vodka-soaked one and march him right into my bosses office...”hey Buford here wanted to thank you in person for the free ride to the place where he collects half-smoked cigarette butts outside the methadone clinic! Give her a hug Buford!”

Yeah, but, the next step is no bus. You can't even recreate on a bicycle in Italy and Spain right now. They're trying to work exemptions for pros, who live on bikes all year round, but that's having snags.

This is a complex multifaceted thing so I can’t just agree or not.
For the cruise ships? Fuck them.
Some companies, not sure. If in the greater good of the people they were still around and could have oversight as you say, open minded.
For the individuals though, there’s soon going to be people experiencing hunger like you’ve never known in your entire life. If my tax dollars go to feeding a few mouths versus jet airplanes I’m fine with that. I’m not going to lose my house either way.

In a related subject spoken about earlier, I didn’t respond because I wasn’t sure, still not. But I don’t think it’s pessimistic to wonder if crime is going to spike, and if a small infusion of cash could mitigate that a small amount.

    Soo much this.
For me my guilty admittance is that once I understood the gravity of this pandemic and that It doesn’t have a political agenda and that he can’t tweet this one away — I believed that a certain percentage of the trump train would see him for what he is. A shitstain.

Not that Trudeau did a hellovalot better, but at least Justin isn't an illiterate narcissist who lies whenever he speaks. My thoughts go out to our med staff, docs and first responders. Also nutmeg choi and any other mags this fucking thing may hit.

Oh, and I'm definitely not going to Boulder to see mother Abigail. Nor to Vegas (fuck you Randall).

Coming back this PM from a 90 min walk on singletrack located on USFS land (is that a hike?) I heard a piece on NPR that the Russians are starting another misinformation campaign centered on Covid. Blaming it on the US govt was one tactic mentioned.

I thought this was a brilliant way to turn lemons into lemonade. Our local brewpub is giving away their produce which will otherwise spoil now that they are down to take out only.

OTOH the money will help a shitload of low-paid workers in the hospitality business who now have no income. Ms TBS and I are using anything we get on takeout in our little village that depends on tourism. Besides, if Trump tries to take credit for this, you just have to say "Andrew Yang was pushing this idea months ago"

many other people are going to get laid off too because of the down turn in business - fuck them too

fuck all the companies too, while trump was pronouncing this was all going to blow over and it was a democratic party hoax - instead of working to reduce the consequences

i hope you get laid off and your company goes tits up

Walk vs Hike assessment scale (a work in progress)

3 or more points constitutes a hike, less is a walk, NTTAWWT

    Add a point if
    You gained 1000 ft elevation
    You stepped over rocks
    You stepped over water bars
    You stepped over tree roots
    You stepped over a stream
You stepped over a dead animal
    You had no cell reception

    Deduct a point if
There was a machine graded trail
    You were wearing cotton
You could see your vehicle the entire time
You were having a phone or text conversation

    Deduct two points if
    There was concrete or asphalt
    You streamed Netflix during
