So do I read this correctly? USA has 50K confirmed cases, and doubling every, say 2.5 days? So we will have more cases at 23 days than China had at 32?

Yes. Roughly. If you believe the China data (which is probably low).

I don't think anyone thought this was a serious bill. It was a way to get some leverage in the Senate. Among other things it sounds like there will be an IG and Congressional oversight on how the 500M big business relief fund (note I didn't call it a slush fund) , which is a good thing in my bleeding heart opinion. Whether you like her policies or not she is the most skilled politician in Congress, by a long shot.

I’m far middle as well. Trump is a bafoon a lot of the time. But we aren’t talking about a stump speech. This was an actual bill, with written language to help all these people who are losing a lot, with a bunch of fucking bullshit attached that has nothing to do with CV19.

So it’s ok at this time, to submit ‘non serious’ bills because she’s an astute politician? People are ok with that? I disagree. This is a just a small example...it’s bullshit. I wonder if
, that most of her constituents actually understood this, how happy they’d be with it.

“Sasse pointed to Pelosi’s “liberal wish list,” which includes mandatory diversity reports on corporate boards, requiring same-day voter registration in all 50 states, a bailout of the U.S. Postal Service, establishing a $15-an-hour minimum wage, and new environmental regulations for airlines.”

I'm in my mid-50s and these are the darkest days I can ever remember in my lifetime.
And our fucking politicians are proceeding business as usual, putting their partisanship above the needs of people who could really use their help right now.
This "Never Let A Crisis Go To Waste" mentality shows just how little any of these fuckers thinks of normal Americans.
May the Covid sweep quickly through the halls of DC! We'll all be better off.

Early 50’s. I don’t like to cry about my own situation, but I can see our family losing pretty much everything we’ve worked for, for the past 30 years...poof. I’ve done it all above board, honestly, with integrity. And we are literally staring in the face of losing it all. Hope,I’m wrong.

I’m in the medical device industry which is normally pretty safe for economic downturns, but not this one...

And to think...we toyed with the idea of selling it all and full time RVing . Might have been a good choice, but I’m too fucking straight to do that. I need to go Costanza...do the opposite.

you can't read it correctly. the case data can't be used to compare because of the way testing is done or not done. It's apples and oranges. You have to look at the mortality. And if you look at that you will see that in less than two weeks we could (likely will) be eclipsing China's total death toll EVERY FUCKING DAY.
(meaning each day we will be adding more than died in China throughout the entire outbreak.)

I should feel pretty fortunate that I am still sort of youngish, single, and already pretty damn broke. I don't have a whole lot to lose at this point.

I very well could be down a more normal path (wife, kids, etc) for someone my age and be potentially really royally fucked. I mean if I lose my house/truck much worse things have happened to people with families that rely on them.

Fire/ EMS Update #6 (SW Edition)

100 confirmed in NM. 1.6% positive result of total tested. Solely due to shortage of testing. Gov instituted recommended shelter in place order yesterday. Hammer is coming, IMV.
We've had age ranges from nine months to 80 y/o. No fatalities. Yet.
DJ, we started screening our firefighters today. Outgoing crews take temp of incoming crews, ask three screening questions. This came from the Seattle boys, who are like talking to people from the future, as we are ~ 3 weeks behind them.
Dedicated two ALS units solely for COVID-19 response. Started today. We will see.
Huge PSA effort seems to be working. Overall call volume down, EDs are ok for now.
Based on our numbers, we are anticipating burn through of gloves and masks by April 2nd. After that, who fucking knows....
Our people continue to show up for work and do the job. Day. After. Day.
My overall mood is a kind of constant low level anxiety. Not sleeping that well. Watching NY and knowing what's coming, if not here, than somewhere. If I lived in Florida, I'd be bracing for a catastrophe....

I was considering a trip there. Looks nice.

Downhill was filmed there, if you want some visuals. Of course, nobody has seen that movie.

Thanks Sean. Don’t know if you heard, but Harbor Frieght donated ALL of their gloves goggles and masks to the effort. Which has to be a metric fuck ton. I hope some trickles down to you.
I only read a headline, but I think Ford??? is teaming up with 3m to crank out some masks.

Nader wants money for his library. Fat fuck.

Aren’t the libraries supposed to be closed?

People can bag on Trump all they want, I won’t stop you, in fact I want a complete investigation into wtf happened in February.

But then letting everyone else off the hook, people paid $$$ to plan, and prepare for this, and now all this pork in the relief bill, is why I can no longer engage with the Trump shit anymore.

Trump will be gone, all the other losers will still be around, and we will have ended up learning 0 from this as a result.

Fire away, I won’t stop any of you.

Well, maybe he can get arrested by his own attorney general:

Justice Dept. tells prosecutors to consider using terrorism laws to pursue those who intentionally spread coronavirus

The Justice Department’s second-highest ranking official on Tuesday told federal law enforcement officials across the country that they should consider using terrorism laws to investigate and prosecute those who try to intentionally infect others with covid-19.

The guidance came in a memorandum from Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey A. Rosen, addressing the many potential crimes prosecutors might encounter in the wake of the global pandemic. Rosen wrote that among the wrongdoing officials might see is “the purposeful exposure and infection of others with COVID-19.”

“Because coronavirus appears to meet the statutory definition of a ‘biological agent’ "under federal law, Rosen wrote, “such acts potentially could implicate the Nation’s terrorism-related statutes.” He cited particular laws governing the development and possession of biological agents for use as a weapon, threats by wire and mail, and false information and hoaxes regarding biological weapons.

"Threats or attempts to use covid-19 as a weapon against Americans will not be tolerated,” Rosen wrote.

not sure if this was posted back when it happened, but when you look at this, and what is currently happening now in Louisiana, Newsom and Sisolak are looking pretty smart. Trump not so much.
