Teddy Roosevelt, who commanded a volunteer cavalry regiment in the Spanish American War, sent a letter to Russell Alger, the Secretary of War, disputing the Secretary's decision to leave soldiers stranded in Cuba while yellow fever and malaria was spreading. Teddy released the letter to the press. Due to public outcry, the Secretary relented, but punished Teddy by dennying him a Medal of Honor after he was nominated for the award. Teddy's career turned out alright despite the act of public disobedience and who the hell has heard of Russell Alger?

04-03-2020, 07:33 PM #10629The website of the Strategic National Stockpile was edited on Friday to soften language about how the stockpile is supposed to be used by states -- a day after media outlets reported that the original version contradicted a claim by senior White House official Jared Kushner.
Kushner, President Donald Trump's senior adviser and son-in-law, said at Thursday's coronavirus briefing that states themselves have medical equipment stockpiled -- and argued that "the notion of the federal stockpile was it's supposed to be our stockpile; it's not supposed to be state stockpiles that they then use."
Journalists and others quickly pointed out that the federal stockpile's own website made clear Kushner was wrong.

The health insurance industry is looking at huge revenue losses from all the people losing their jobs and coverage and huge costs for covid patients. Hard to see how we come out of this without single payer, but I'm sure we'll find a way--with a huge number of business unable to afford to insure employees, a huge number of Americans unable to get or pay for shit insurance and an epidemic of personal bankruptcies and closed hospitals. We have a chance to seriously reform our health care system and I have faith that we will fail to rise to the occasion. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm not sure it's really Chekov's hammer you're wielding there but that's okay I don't agree with Chekhov on it anyways. I do agree with Roth, though. I'm a prime example.
